Side leaders
Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 4:55AM
I had planned (boy that's a dirty word!) to organize the closet in my sewing room on Monday, but I was having too much fun with the sewing machine covers. I peeked in there again today and realized it's going to need more help than simply reorganizing it. I decided to order some of these "bolts" for all my fabric. When they get here, I'll get started on that closet. I swear!
This morning I whipped out some side leaders for my HQ16 that I've been meaning to make. I haven't used side leaders before, but thought I'd give them a whirl and see how I like the results. I cut more of the canvas 12 inches wide by 18 inches long, serged around the edges, put a 1 inch hem to pin the backing fabric too, and a 2 inch hem that I inserted 1 inch dowel rods into for the clamps to grip.
Laundry is going and I shredded the meat off a chicken that I smoked, and the carcass is cooking down now for stock. I really like the flavor of smoked chicken stock in some of the spicy chicken soups I make. Tonight is either going to be chicken margarita pizzas or chicken enchiladas, depending on whatever sounds better later on today. It's nice and sunny outside today, so I'm going to grill some hot dogs for lunch.
I need to run to town, but the Terminex man is coming today to take care of the yearly termite contract, whatever they do. Maybe I'll be responsible and do some housecleaning instead. Maybe.
Anne over at Bunny Hill is offering a free block of the month that looks adorable! It's applique, but I'm half tempted...

Side leaders, hmmmm ........ how interesting. I hadn't thought of those. I might just have to give them a try. Although, I don't have any problems with the clamps.
I am going to do the Bunny Hill free BOM. You really should give it a try. I LOVE applique. Either raw edge or Kim Diehl's way.
I am going to check into the "bolts" for my fabric!
I shared the Bunny Hill pattern with my quilt group yesterday and a lot of us are also going to do it. Everything Bunny Hill does is just so darn cute, it's just too hard to pass up.
We had roasted chicken last night for supper and I just threw the carcass in the freezer for simmering at a later date. Tonight is my quilt club Christmas party - so I will no doubt be over eating. I am taking peanut butter chip brownies......frosted of course, and carrot souffle.
When I worked at the quilt shop, I brought home the empty cardboards from bolts of fabric and have my yardage on them. It sure helps on storage! The rest is in a cabinet with shelves, rubbermaid tubs, and fat quarter totes. I usually have a pretty good idea where something is when I want it.........the problem is, I want the new stuff too!
sigh~~~~~~what to do, what to do
I've never done applique. I love the way it looks, but I'm never sure if I can do it or not! Maybe I'll try the first block and see how it goes.
I would love to have a large bookcase in here for fabric so it's out in the open where I can see it, but I just don't have room. I'm hoping the "bolts" will at least make my closet more user friendly.
Hi CJ, I'm new to your blog, but I have some questions about running Artista on a Mac. I would really appreciate it if you could email me. As a registered user, you have my email, right? Thanks!
BTW, Applique is really easy ... try it and you will be addicted to yet another technique.
CJ, Applique is addictive, lol beware! This is my next applique project using needle turn method!
