I'm hatched out!
Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 3:20PM Dress number three is done! This sewing machine cover is housing my Bernina 630 and embroidery module. Man was this one a job! And just as difficult for me to make as it was the last two times I used this pattern. I am really happy with the result though. I even made my own bias tape for the hem this time, a first for me! I wanted to try out the bias tape gadget on my Babylock coverstitch, but this machine cover was so bulky I figured it would be my undoing. Instead I used one of the Clover bias tape makers and sewed it on regularly.
Serger and Coverstitch machines next!

This is my favorite one so far! I LOVE houndstooth! Hey, what about your HQ, are you going to make a cover for it? :~)
I like this one best too Julia, I'm really keen on the houndstooth!
Hmmmm.... I dunno, don't you think she'd look silly all covered up? Like a wagon from yesteryear? LOL
It looks so good. Love the fabric, the embroidery design . . love it all! My poor machines have been naked for all their life so I guess they'll stay that way.
That looks fabulous CJ. My machines are naked too. :(
great going CJ. I'm doing the same thing as u. I started mine 2 weeks ago. I'm making a cover for a larger machine and also for a "Gem". I also made a mat w/pockets for the machine to sit on. I think it's turned out great.
Like you, I've done sm. crosshatching. But to add a twist, I did both front/back/gusset all different. On the front, I pieced it then did all the seams w/different stitches from the 630. The back was crosshatched, the gusset was fm. I wanted to add variety and also take advantage of all the pretty stitches on the 630. l made these for my BFF. She's never had covers for her machines. That's always the 1st thing I do when I get a new machine as I don't want dust all over them. Country living has it's pluses, but dust isn't one of them.

I can see this one must have taken you some time, curving the binding for the module. Turned out great, CJ. I think the embroidery you're using "pops" against the houndstooth. Do you plan on making new ones for your two sergers? You're on a roll, girl.
Thanks everyone! Hilary, I sure would love to see yours, do you have any pictures posted anywhere? I need inspiration for the next 2!
Yep Cindy, I ordered a pattern for the sergers and will be making them when it arrives.
CJ - So glad you are back to blogging! You are inspiring me to make a cover for my 440.
Go for it Karen, it's great fun! I need some wall art now :)
"Do people (non sewers) have any idea how time consuming it is to do tiny cross hatch work?"
No, and Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care.
Please do something to spice up your posts. Dogs, mechanical things (NOT cleaning a sewing machine), RV's, trucks or sex.
CJ, your work is so nice. I love the machine covers.
Kat
I love your machine covers. You are such an inspiration.
Please don't change your blog! I log in because I enjoy it as it is and for the things you do discuss. If someone is dissatisfied let them go elsewhere!
LOL Carol Doug is just horsing around, he's an RV friend that would like me to blog about things other than sewing on occasion... LOL
Whew. Thanks for explaining. We lost you once and don't want to lose you again. Love your blog!
[...] I was going to make the one piece cover to fit the machine and the embroidery module like I did for my 630, but I rarely have the embroidery module on. posted under Bernina, Decorating, Embroidery, [...]
Did you use the Linda Gugliotta pattern from Erica's Craft? I think I'm gonna have to break down and get it. I've never worked with binding like that. Did you use a special foot? Was it as hard as it looks?
Okay, so maybe I should READ before I post. lol I have the Clover bias doohickey, and I have mad love for that little thing. So it was difficult, even on your third time, but worth it... =O)
Yep, that's the pattern Mindy, I bought it for my 830 as well, but haven't made that one yet!
