Hmmm... maybe a nightmare is more like it. The thought of the disaster upstairs in my sewing room waiting to attack me in the morning kept me from sleeping very well. I just don't function in chaos. Which is funny, because I am a very chaotic individual... I simply like order in my house (and my car)! Maybe I need my surroundings to be organized so my chaotic thoughts can flow freely. :)
But there it is, my sewing room is once again back in order. (
Complete "tour" available here.) As orderly as a sewing room that gets used nonstop can be anyway. Whew! Deep sigh of relief. Shrugging off the strait jacket.

This is the best I could come up with for now as a storage solution for my scraps. You might notice I'm out of space. There's nothing left but walls, and I'm still arguing with Prince Charming over filling them up with shelving.
Ten skinny little drawers that just fit stacked on top of each other in my last remaining corner of the room. Now that I've got this fabric thing somewhat under control (
ahem!) Sorted by color at the moment. I know I have another basket of scraps, a huge one, but it's hiding in the quilting closet in the other room, sharing space with somewhere around 300lbs of wheat berries, so I'll deal with it another time.

Tada! It's not perfect, but I think it will do. I really don't have any place for my scrap batting, so it's just stuffed on top of the plastic carts. My home interior and apparal fabrics (both of which I have very little, mostly quilting material) are folded up on the end, quasi neatly.
The plastic carts hold my stabilizers, embroidery hoops, various gadgets, interfacings, etc. I have eleven carts in this room!

This is just the other end of the closet, which is narrow but pretty wide. My packaged quilt kits are on this end, along with a few large sized bolts of muslin and Osnaburg, and a roll of Polymesh stabilizer too big to fit into a cart. Up front on the bottom shelf are some jelly rolls, and partial fat quarters folded.
Now I'm going to go pass out. :)

It's hard to believe that you lived in a camper last year and now you have all of this space to enjoy and all that fabric! You sure have a lot of browns & neutrals!

WOW! That looks great! So organized and convenient, and what a selection of fabrics. Love the shelves in the closet. Matter of fact I would be thrilled to have my space looking so good. I just don't want to work that hard.
Have fun!
You have been a very busy lady!!! I agree, you need to go shopping for more fabric. hehe Why won't Prince Charming agree to shelving on the walls? Where did you get your little drawers for your scraps?
My room becomes a disaster while I am working on a project, but like you the chaos drives me insane! So I have to do a major clean-up after each project. But, out of our chaos comes some wonderful creations. Without a creative outlet and something to take my mind off of "life", I truly would be insane! And this is so much more fun than therapy! :~)
Yep, I need more fabrics. What happened to all the great sales?
The drawers came from Lowe's, they are the Sterilite ones.
Jim doesn't like me hanging stuff on the walls if he doesn't think we'll be in a house long... hmmm...
Looks great, now when are you going to come make my sewing room all nice and neat? lolol
Hey gal. It really looks good. Listen, all those scraps you are wondering waht to do with. If you wanted to get rid of some of them I would be glad to pay postage if you wanted to send them to me. I could use them in the crumb and string blocks for the quilts I am doing for Sunshine.
A couple of ladies on the group sent be some boxes of material that I have put to good use. The boxes from the post office that you can send ( no matter what the weight ) and it will only cost you 10 or 12 dollars. I was amazed at how much those ladies crammed into those boxes. I have two quilts ready except for binding and 6 more in process and over 200 blocks almost ready to put together. It doesn't matter what the colors are cause I use everything, and it doesn't matter how small the piece cause I use it up till there is nothing left. Then I take the tiny, tiny pieces and cut them up even more and am making little teddy bears and using that to stuff them with. Thought I would add a little teddy bear to go with each quilt.
So any scraps are welcome. Just a thought. Got to get my flour ordered so I can make some of your bread. Later Linda
Linda, give up my scraps? I've been patiently saving them so I can start making scrap quilts! LOL
Scott "used" to be wierd about hanging too many things on walls too, CJ. Then, for some reason that I cannot put my finger on, he "just decided" to start living in the houses we were in - and be it as it may - we would do what is necessary if we decided to mover. So - once we decided to move north, it truly was no big deal for him to putty the holes and paint.
I like that stack of 10 mini drawers. Perfect for a tight place, perfect for filling.............but then again, what bins aren't perfect for filling?
I am super impressed, CJ - now wanna come over and organize my mess? My studio is now a combination of its own contents plus those of two other bathrooms the handyman is working on - Arghhh! And I'm trying to pack away sewing stuff I can do without until we move - oh, my - yes chaos everywhere. When I need organization I'll just stare at your really neat closet!
Cheers!
Well you have made excellent use of your space CJ. Love all those fabric bolts. I have some fabric stuck in drawers still and that's bad cuz I forget about it.
Now you are all set to begin a nice long week of sewing eh?
You have done an outstanding job of organizing your sewing space. I like the fabric organizers... Btw, what is the minimum yardage each board holds? Your stacking drawers for scraps are great...it seems that you have a similar organization for scraps as Bonnie Hunters Scrap Users System... at Quiltville.com. I love her blog too.
I just returned from a quilting class which was much fun but now I have to put everything back including my machine and feel about the same... overwhelmed with chaos! Thanks for the inspiration!
About half a yard Warbler, any less I fold around a 4 inch ruler and slide off and store with my fat quarters.
CJ,
Looks great! Where's your 201? If you have a spot of floor space left that's about 17" x 22", you've got room for a hide-away home for Sophia.

Jenny, Sophia is sitting on my work table. I am trying to find a cabinet for her. That one is beautiful and exactly what I'm looking for!
