I like!

I managed to squeeze in two of the Silhouette Christmas quilt blocks today, I love it with this fabric!

I am glad I decided to test wash the XoticFelt (bamboo/rayon) as it shrink nearly three inches one direction, absolutely none the other direction.  Now I won’t be afraid to wash my quilt… cold water of course, delicate cycle, when it’s finished.

I think I’m going to use a wool batt on this, maybe even double with a cotton batt, we’ll see.  I’m still working on the mini lonestar, and I used Quilters Dream Deluxe loft cotton on it… first time I’ve ever tried the super thick one, I love it!  But boy is it heavy, I think it’d be a booger to wash on a large quilt.

I’m having second thoughts about my studio.  I want it, I really do, but the economy is freaking me out even more these days… I keep thinking that money would be better spent on property improvements… like an outdoor wood boiler, fencing, a small barn, a rain water system…

We shall see!

Silhouette Christmas Quilt

Is anyone else doing this quilt from Bernina and OESD?

I saw it and fell in love!  While mine will basically be the same, I chose a different line of fabrics, “Together” by Brannock and Patek for Moda to do mine in.

I’m also going to do the appliqués in felt.  National Wovens has a new line out called “XoticFelt” made from a bamboo/rayon blend that is dry cleanable. I am testing a piece in the washing machine on the delicate cycle, as I have to be able to wash my quilts!

Since I have the AccuQuilt Studio and not the GO!, I’ll have to cut my appliqués by hand as these dies are not available for the Studio.  Or I may convert them and let the Cutwork software and tool cut them out.  I’ve never worked with felt before, so we’ll see how it goes!

These are my fabrics.

This morning I’m going to get them all starched, and I have the felt in the washing machine now.  I’d like to get at least one block made today to see how I like it!
