About the fabric...
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 12:00PM Since I’ve had numerous emails this morning while I was out mowing, about the bolts of fabric I purchased, I figured it would just be easier to answer here.
Most of you know I finally decided to purchase a commercial longarm and start quilting for hire. I’ve sold my former HQ16, and I’m getting ready to put my motorcycle up for sale as well. The sale of both will allow me to pay my husband back immediately, instead of letting the business pay him back, which could take a few years!
One of the things I had decided to do, along with the longarm quilting, is to make baby quilts for resale. I love making them, and it allows me to play with bright and cheery colors, or soft pastels. I can’t really do that with our personal quilts, since our home is decorated in dark, earthy colors.
And that’s where the 27 bolts of fabric come into play! We all know it’s hard to get anyone to pay enough for a quilt to even begin to cover your labor, much less materials. My goal is to come up with a few patterns that are cute but fast and easy to piece, and a single edge to edge pattern or two that are fast to quilt, and by purchasing my fabrics, batting and threads at wholesale prices, to be able to make a bit off of them… and enjoy what I’m doing!
These fabrics are all solids and marbles, and in baby colors. Pinks, purples, blues, greens, oranges and yellows. I don’t have anything like that in my stash! They were purchased directly from United Notions (Moda).
I live in a rural community, and it’s a relatively poor area. I expect it to take some time for the longarming to pay for itself, and so I’ve been playing around with various other ideas to help it along. I hope that answers your questions!
