The Big Dam Bridge

Sounds bad doesn’t it?

This is the largest pedestrian walking bridge in the entire world, right here in Arkanasas!

Jim and I only saw the very beginning portion of the shortest section.  If you take a peek at the map on this bottom of this page, we were on the yellow section, that teensy portion that crosses the river at Cook’s Landing.  That’s it… that’s all we saw.

I would love to take our bicycles back down there and bike more of it, there’s no way I can walk it.

These two pictures show the start of the bridge at Cook’s Landing, which is on the North side of Little Rock.  I think if you were to take this portion to the end, you’d wind up down on the riverfront (the cool part of Little Rock, and where the Flying Fish is) but I’m not positive… I don’t know Little Rock well at all.

 The image above and on the left shows exactly what Jim and I walked yesterday, up the ramp and then across the river, before turning around and coming back.  I wore my new Birkenstocks to help break them in, then switched over to me sandals after the walk.

 

The above picture is the spillway.  Jim and I were looking at the “spill holes” and unless more water is spilled below, this can’t be producing much power.

 These are both taken from the halfway point going across the river.  The view out over the lake was beautiful!

We passed a lot of people on the bridge, both on foot and bicycles, but it was never crowded.  Of course this weekend Fayettville is hosting their “Booze and Blues” or whatever it’s called event, and it was also “Rocktober Fest” in Little Rock at one of the parks.
