Local quilt guild
Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 12:49PM Ever since we bought our house here, I’ve been meaning to go check out the quilt guild. I’ve mentioned before that Russellville Arkansas is a freaking desert for quilters or seamstresses of any type… no fabric shops, no sewing machine dealers, nothing! No classes, nada.
But there is a tiny quilt guild. Today I finally went and joined, there were probably 20 or so ladies there. I’m still not sure exactly what takes place at these meetings, as after the meeting was over, one of the women talked about things the guild might want to learn or make this year.
So they obviously hold some classes, which should be fun, never having had any! I’ll enjoy just being around other people who like to sew… and they can probably help me find homes for charity items.
I peeked around the room (a large room, in a church) when sewing get togethers were mentioned, wondering about all those sewing machines running in one room! I can’t help but worry about that type of load on the circuit breaker(s)? They mentioned bringing surge protectors along, but that won’t do anything for overloaded circuits… I’m a bit concerned about exposing my sewing machine to that.
I know, I know, that’s why those of you who are lucky enough to live near shops that offer classes have a class machine, but my use of a class machine would be so limited as to be really an extravagant use of money, I have no need of another in the house. What to do?
Next month’s meeting is taking place at one of the member’s homes… she wants to unload some of her stash, and is have a “garage sale” in her sewing room for guild members. What a cool idea! But I can’t imagine where all those people are going to park!
Everyone is supposed to make a pincushion for the March meeting… as fancy or as whimsical as you can come up with… so if anyone knows of any amazing pin cushion patterns, holler!
