Lone star finished!

I finished the quilting on the lone star yesterday, but didn’t get around to the binding until this morning.  It’s hot, humid and breezy outside, and I couldn’t get the quilt to lay flat long enough to get a nice picture, it’ll have to wait for another day… plus it’s a bit rumpled as I didn’t press it after taking it out of the dryer, and my dryer kept wadding it up into a roll!

But you get the idea!

I struggled with how I wanted to quilt this one.  I’ve never seen a lone star with anything but custom quilting, and the star is always done with continuous curves, a look I simply don’t care for.  And of course, I love pantos!  But what panto would look good on a lone star?

As luck would have it, I recently added a new panto to my collection, “Royal Plumes” by Judy Allen.  You can find it on my pantograph page, it’s the very last one.

I decided it would be perfect!  This one is a bit of a challenge to do.  The panto design is a full 17 inches wide, leaving me a half inch to spare with a large quilt rolled up on the frame.  The quilt measures 82 inches by 89 inches.  I used Quilters Dream Blend for this one… my least favorite of the Quilters Dream battings, but I didn’t want the quilting to overshadow the lone star.

I cropped a couple pictures at a hundred percent so you could see the quilting close up, it doesn’t realloy show in the first photo.
