“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” - Arnold Bennett

Endless Embroidery on the Bernina 830

… continued from my previous post.

I knew that with the endless embroidery feature of the Bernina 830, you could adjust the number of motifs to fit within your chosen hoop, as well as adjust the spacing between motifs, but I didn’t realize that you could precisely, perfectly space motifs apart!

I already knew I need my motifs to be 28 millimeters apart to fit into my table runner.  I didn’t know that I could choose that exact measurement on the sewing machine, (as indicated by the pink arrow in the picture below) and get perfect results.  Totally cool!

You simply turn the stitch length knob on the front of the machine to choose the distance your motifs will stitch out apart from each other.  And it’s precise!

Since I wanted to stitch out my middle motif first, I selected all three arrows at both the top and the bottom.  Please note that when you add arrows from both ends, the onscreen graphical representation of the arrows will move, making it appear as if you should alter the number (28mm in this case) you entered.

Do not.  The number is accurate, the graphic is not.  I did a test sew out to check this.

Once you’ve selected all your splitting arrows, click the green checkmark at the bottom of the screen to proceed to the stitch out screen, and sew out the design.  When the design is finished, it will stitch all the splitting arrows.

You’ll then see a screen giving you the option of ending the session, or continuing with the endless embroidery.  Select the endless embroidery option as indicated by the pink arrow to proceed.  Un-hoop your fabric, and hoop the next section, and put your hoop back on the machine.

The next screen is simply telling you to align the arrows on the screen with those stitched out on your fabric.  Click on the black hand as indicated by the pink arrow.

On this screen, you will select each of the splitting arrows that you sewed out, one at a time, and align the tips of each arrow with your needle.  When you select one of the arrows, your hoop will move to that position and you will then use your stitch width and length knobs on the front of your machine to line up the needle with the tip of the arrow.

It’s that easy! Don’t worry if your initial needle position is off by quite a distance, that will depend on how you hooped your fabric, which I didn’t go into here.

Once you’re happy with your alignment, click the green checkmark and stitch out the next section.  Rinse and repeat for the last section.

Perfect placement, and so easy!  Thank you Bernina!

Now I’m off to quilt it!
