Entries in Cascade yarns Eco Alpaca (2)

8:49AM

Back to normal

Well almost.  The ground is still covered in snow and looks absolutely gorgeous with the sun shining on it, but the roads are melting and the snow plow finally made it out to our house late yesterday afternoon, so Jim went to work this morning.

I’ve been having fun knitting!  I didn’t end up starting the scarf pattern I’d purchased, as after knitting up a test swatch in my chosen yarn, I decided it was too thin and wasn’t going to look right.

Twenty years ago (at least) I purchased a three book set by Barbara G Walker, “Treasury of Knitting Patterns”.  I started flipping through them… surprisingly no moths came fluttering out… and on page 17 of volume two, there was a lovely pattern I thought would make a great scarf!

I made up a chart of it, using five repeats of the pattern:

And then I got to work on it!

This yarn, Cascade Yarns Eco Alpaca, says it’s worsted weight, but it feels much thinner to me. I’m using size 5 needles, and size 3 would probably be better.  I like the pattern, because it’s identical on both sides. There are 44 rows to make the pattern, so I only have one and a half repeats done.

But it’s time to finish the blue and green quilt that’s been neglected on the longarm, as I have a couple more waiting to go on it.  I can knit in the evenings!

Oh dear... I'm in trouble now!

So the plan yesterday was to finish quilting the blue and green quilt after I went to the store and the yarn shop downtown.  Unfortunately, the yarn shop didn’t open until noon yesterday, because on Tuesdays, they host an evening “knit in”.  By the time I left there, my feet were in the clouds and my mind dreamily knitting luxurious socks and gorgeous sweaters!

I didn’t walk out empty handed either.  I bought yarns for socks, and yarns for scarves, and I do believe I’m going to have to do an internet search and see if there are MORE yarn shops anywhere nearby!

Of everything in the store, one yarn in particular had me drooling and petting it… Jojoland Melody, a gorgeous finger-weight variegated wool.  So soft!

I have a yarn swift and a ball winder on order, along with several sizes of Addi knitting needles, and I’m praying that it all comes back to me!  (How to knit, that is).  I did make a fisherman knit afghan for the RV about 5 years ago, but other than that I haven’t done any knitting since I was in my twenties!

I have been working on a crocheted afghan this winter… I hadn’t done any crocheting in years either.  It’s coming along slowly and crocheting really bothers my right hand, but I’ll get it done eventually.

But oh dear… I could barely stand to touch the yarn I’m using on it (Lion’s Brand) after fondling all those fabulous spun wools!

Jim wanted pizza last night, and while I was craving a salad, pizza hit the spot.  We’ll have salads tonight, with smoked ham and hard boiled eggs.

We were supposed to wake up to snow this morning, but there’s nothing on the ground… and supposedly we’re expecting 4 - 8 inches of the fluffy stuff today!
