Be still my fickle heart!
Friday, July 9, 2010 at 3:18PM For the past week, I’ve been sewing exclusively on my Bernina 630. My 830 started going whacky while I was sewing a denim purse, and of course now it’s in the hospital. Am I missing it? You would think so, as much as I rave about it and love that machine.
But no, I am not missing it at all! I have re-bonded with my 630, and find myself ever so grateful I decided not to sell it, at the advice of many of you when I was thinking about doing so awhile back. All of the “Stumped” quilt was pieced on it, and the applique was stitched down with it as well.
Speaking of the “Stumped” quilt, it got set aside. I can only take so much pastel fabrics and “fluffy” designs at one time… today I”m back in my groove with my favored blacks, tans and creams.
This one is being done in Hoffman Bali Batiks, two Cappuccino Bali packs are used. Perhaps not to their best advantage, but I started one quilt with these last year, this was going to be Jim’s Christmas quilt, only I didn’t like the quilt. So I’ve salvaged all the fabric from it that I could, and started a different one. These blocks I like.
I learned to piece with Mettler 50wt cotton. Liked it just fine. Switchd to Aurifil 50wt some time ago, and liked it even better. Now I’ve tried Presencia 60wt, which is a 3 ply cotton, (the other two are both 2 ply) and love it! It’s my new favorite piecing thread.
