Sweet tooth anyone?

I’m not sure why, but on the first night that Jim is away whenever he has to work out of town, the dogs think I should stay up all night and keep them company.  They’ll usually quiet down around 11pm or so, which is well past my bedtime (!!!) and then around two in the morning, they start talking to me.

I got out of bed and headed for the sofa instead, where I got my first bath of the day, thanks to a pair of overly exuberant tongues.  At four, I gave up, started a pot of coffee, ground some wheat and started a couple of loaves of bread, and made my absolute favorite coffee cake.

I really shouldn’t, as I’m unable to resist this stuff.  It’s flakey, sweet and just wonderful!  I scarfed a piece down for breakfast and then did penance by rowing for a mile and a half.

I’m going to go grill some hot Italian sausages and make some Zuppa Toscana (soup) because I know I’m going to be too tired later to cook dinner, and it will last me until Jim gets home.

One of my blog readers, who lives up in the northwest corner of Arkansas (lucky girl!) is going to stop by for a visit on her way through to Clinton today.  It’s so much fun to put a face to a name!
