Paradise!

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for the good wishes on the land Jim and I are purchasing. I’m sorry I’m not responding to comments right now, whatever is making me sick is sending my blood pressure up like crazy, then dipping down until I feel like I’m going to pass out, so I’m just going to post an update here and direct friends and family to my blog for now.
We got permission from the sellers to go out yesterday and spend the day on the land. Jim loaded up one of the ATV’s so I didn’t have to walk, and the fresh air felt great. By noon, it was warm enough to just wear a tshirt.
There are trails cut over most of the property, so it’s easy to get around on a four wheeler.
All the pictures we took are taken in one spot, which is where I think I’d like to build our house, (although Jim has a different spot in mind), with the exception of the first photo. When you first enter the land, there is a wet weather creek meandering through the top. It cuts across two sides of the top forty acres, down alongside the place I want to build, and starts to loop back towards the pond at the bottom side of the top forty.
The picture on the left is the spot I’d like our house to be on. It’s almost straight out of a dream I had, overlooking the valley (with some more clearing) and surrounded by gorgeous rock sculptures. This is over on the north side of the land, looking to the southwest. I can’t help but visualize a home nestled in among the boulders, with ferns, herbs and flowers tucked in all the crevices. You can hear the creek and I would clear out about ten acres below, up to the creek, to a park like setting.
Right next to the rock outcropping I’m standing on, a path winds down about twenty or thirty feet to this smaller overhang, which is tall enough to walk under. So very cool!
Down in the far northwest corner, on the ten acre piece that sticks out to the north, there is a steep hill with boulders the size of a house that slid down probably centuries ago. A year round creek flows down them, and at the bottom are some pools. It is going to be STUNNING to develop that area into a picnic ground.
The lower twenty acres is where the two pastures and pond are, and it’s mostly pine trees in that area. The first thing I’d like to do is clean up that land. The pastures need to be brush hogged, then probably disced then limed and seeded. They are currently in production as deer plots, and planted in turnips and potatoes. We found I think ten deer stands on the property, two deer cabins, and with Shinn’s orchard about a quarter mile away, the deer are probably abundant enough to be a serious nuisance if we decided to farm/garden those areas instead of running livestock on them.
The upper forty has some pine on it, but is mostly in hardwoods, and while it’s deceptive from the picture, there’s less than a hundred feet in elevation change anywere on the property, so the slopes are gentle and tractorable everywhere except the north border where these pictures are, and it’s a perfect spot to build a house as the land there is scenic but not good for much else… exactly what I love best.

There is now an accepted back up offer on the land, and a third party who asked our realtor to contact us and make it known that he’s willing to pay whatever we paid for the piece, plus a nice profit, he wants it so bad. I think you all know what our response to that was… SEVEN LONG YEARS I’ve hike all over this area, trying to find the perfect spot to live out our days in.

OMG that is an awesome piece of land, Congrats and good luck!!! LOVE the rocks
Oh, C.J.! I am soooo jealous. It is beautiful! Reminds me of the north GA mountains around Springer Mntn on the Appalachian Trail. We would love to build up near there someday. I like the area you have chosen for a house--it would be so gorgeous the way you describe it. Can't wait to follow the development--good luck to you!!

The land is beautiful! I can see why you love it. I hope everything works out. I also hope you get to feeling better!
Beautiful acreage. Hope you get to the bottom of your health issues.
I remember when my DH and I bought a house. No major remodels and no acreage. I'm too soft.
It was meant to be. Otherwise, you would have been the backup offer at this point!!!
The land is beautiful and you will do some wonderful things with it.
Make sure you take care of your health.
Beautiful place. Seeing the pics makes me wish I was there. Enjoy!!
Wow! CJ, that's a gorgeous piece of land! Congratulations on finding what you've wanted for so long. :)
Don't you get first dibs on the lot? I sure hope you get it...
CJ. Beautiful property you have there. Fluctuations in blood pressure are dangerous. I hope you are under a physicians care, and hiking around the property is probably not the best thing to be doing at this time. Hope all is under control and your well soon.
CJ, In the fifth picture the rocks look like a turtle. The property looks beautiful. Sounds like the property is just what you've been searching for. I agree you should check with your doctor about your symptoms--they have been going on for a while now & should be evaluated. Your body sends you messages & you have to listen. Diane in CT
CJ, I've got my fingers crossed! since you had it under contract, does that mean you get it.?
Sorry about your BP, maybe that's the root of your not feeling so well. My BP started to go up to the point I was about to be put on meds. I started drinking Zija (moringa) and drinking their tea. Mines down to normal ranges. hope you can find a way to avoid being put on meds.
CJ, that property would have been my sons dream when they were young. can you imagine having that place to roam on as a child?
What a paradise. I know you'll make it breathtaking.. I do hope to see you feeling better soon.. You have been under far too long. Not like you, time too see a Dr. I feel..
Beautiful piece of property, congratulations. Although I would be leery of issues of building, digging, etc. . . with all the rock nearby. Good luck.
I tend to agree with Terry about the rock on the property. Where we live in Calif. on the east side of town towards Sonoma it's rocky like the property you are contemplating CJ. Difficult building issues with septic, foundation and well digging. Not to mention, where there are rocks, there are snakes. Rattlesnakes to be exact on the east side. Thankfully we don't have those over in the west Sonoma county.
What a beautiful piece of property. The rocks remind me of one I used to lay on as a child and watch the clouds go by. All the while I was trying to imagine what each cloud looked like. Can I come and lay on your rocks one day?!!
CJ, oh my - I've wished I lived closer because of your great cooking and sewing - now I wish I was close by to visit that land - BEAUTIFUL. I hope all works out for you.
CJ, how beautiful! Your pictures remind me of Shawnee National Forest in deep southern Illinois. I hope you feel better and get that blood pressure under control. You have so much to do and live for girl!
CJ, the land looks amazing! I hope you get your wish! And I pray you start feeling better really soon! Can one overdose on brussel sprouts?
