Happy New Year!
Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 5:38AM It just gets better every year doesn’t it? Always keep your joy for life burning brightly! It goes by so quickly!
Jim and I had the best time ever yesterday. My sewing machines aren’t ready to be picked up yet, so instead of going back home for the weekend, we packed up the ATV’s and headed out to Moccasin Gap for some trail riding. The weather was glorious, and I don’t remember ever having so much fun in my life!
There are 28 miles of trails there. We passed several waterfalls and had to cross the creek a few times… I was really hoping not get stuck!
We somehow managed to get off the trails at some point and found ourselves on the “treacherous” trails… now that was FUN! Only at one point did I find myself more afraid than adventurous, and that’s when a section of the trail had washed away at the base of a waterfall. When Jim attempted to go up it, standing and leaning forward over the front of his ATV, and nearly flipped backwards, did I make him get back off and stack some boulders in place. Just enough so that there were no casualties. LOL
I do believe a handheld GPS with trail maps is in order. Apparently neither of us proved to be very adept at following the paper one, and it was getting a bit late when we finally made our way back to civilization! It occurred to me several times that a survival kit was probably not a bad idea, there’s no way I could have hiked it back out of there with my knees, up some of those inclines.
We will definitely be doing more trail riding, what a rush! Happy New Year!

Quadding (ATVing) is something Scott and I LOVE to do - and do often. To be able to go out the back gate on the quad(s) and hit the National forest in AZ is too wonderful. When we go to Crown King up in the mountains, it's an all-day affair and we take it all in - loving every minute of it. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that when we go, we always find a tavern (or two) to quench our thrist buds....LOL
It sounds like you and Jim ...and...Scott and I would do just fine!!
Be sure and put a roll of duct tape in your survival kit. A friend broke her arm riding an ATV (actually NOT rididng, but falling off the ATV) and they had to tape her arm to her body and take her out on the quads. It goes in all the quads now!!!
Have fun but be safe!!
Sounds like an awesome day!
AMEN on life being too short. I don't want to lose my joy de vie. I see people that have sat down and given up. As long as I have breath I will live to the fullest. BTW, I'm still rooting for you to join us at Judy's. it's only 6 weeks away.
