I like!

I managed to squeeze in two of the Silhouette Christmas quilt blocks today, I love it with this fabric!

I am glad I decided to test wash the XoticFelt (bamboo/rayon) as it shrink nearly three inches one direction, absolutely none the other direction.  Now I won’t be afraid to wash my quilt… cold water of course, delicate cycle, when it’s finished.

I think I’m going to use a wool batt on this, maybe even double with a cotton batt, we’ll see.  I’m still working on the mini lonestar, and I used Quilters Dream Deluxe loft cotton on it… first time I’ve ever tried the super thick one, I love it!  But boy is it heavy, I think it’d be a booger to wash on a large quilt.

I’m having second thoughts about my studio.  I want it, I really do, but the economy is freaking me out even more these days… I keep thinking that money would be better spent on property improvements… like an outdoor wood boiler, fencing, a small barn, a rain water system…

We shall see!

The economy will do whatever it does and there's not much we can do about it except deal with whatever happens. We might as well enjoy our lives as much as we can NOW, within reason, instead of constantly worrying about what might happen because we don't know what will happen. And if we've prepared too obviously there will be plenty of those who did nothing ready to take what they need from those who did prepare. It's hard for a person to know just WHAT to do. Really, you have a sewing area and a quilting area....do you actually NEED an entirely new studio? Maybe a good root cellar to store what you raise would be an idea? Just a thought, not trying to tell you what to do or anything.

love what you did so far
saw those emb designs and didn't think it was my cuppa tea but I really like the fabrics you're using - guess I'm not creative enough to think outside the box-lol, plus I do already have way too many irons in the fire and ufo's - I am, hopwever, lusting after those french sunflower designs. Have never tried mach emb applique so I'm still thinking and reading

I want to make it, too. I have the designs and love them! If I ever get my machine back...

Your blocks look, in true CJ fashion, perfect. Keep stitchin'--I'll have the fun long distance. :-)

CJ, you have such perfect taste in putting designs together with fabric! Those are wonderful! and I totally understand your fears with the economy...it's not looking like it's turning around any time soon!
And your current studio may not be your fantasy but it's functional and it's yours!!

Like what you doing with these holiday designs very much. The fabric choices are very complimentary to the designs! Not many folks these days know what to do in relationship to the economy so don't feel bad. Figure out what's the best choice for the needs of your own family and you'll be ahead.I just gave up a nice salary after 37 years in the corporate world because I figured it was time that I do what I've wanted to do for some time now. My husband has been retired for 10 years. I just finished my second week as the manager of our local Bernina dealer and quilt shop and I love it. The salary isn't what I pulled in my prior life but there's a lot less stress and that's ok by me. I taught the Bernina mastery classes (and other classes) here for the last 10 years so it was an easy switch! Great boss, great customers - I'm loving it for sure. So life is short - decide what you want to do and if you are able to make it then GO FOR IT!!

I have done a couple of the Silhouette designs with the cutwork software and tool I just purchased. First thing I did and I was so happy with it. So how did you decide to do yours? I probably won't make a quilt but use the designs for towels, aprons, etc. this year. Yours is gorgeous!
