Design wall Monday

The mini lonestar is on the longarm, I’m working on it in bits and pieces.  I haven’t been sleeping again, and my eyes are struggling with the detail work.

My Bernina 830 made it home with Jim on Saturday, and all I can say is WOW!  I’ve had my machines serviced all over the place through the years as we traveled, but no one ever comes close to the quality of work I receive when I take my machines to my dealer, the Quilt Sampler in Missouri.  I’ve always thought my 830 sewed like a dream, but if possible, it’s twice as good now!  Quite the “spa” treatment it got!

I have begun the machine cover tutorials, as promised.  I am currently working on the serger cover for the Bernina 1300MDC, writing the tutorial as I go, and will upload it as a .pdf file once it is complete.  That’s what is on my design wall this week!

I used leftover batting scraps from quilting to create my test pattern.  That really worked beautifully as it has just enough body to hold form well enough to see how the pattern fit, and I quickly stitched it together with a basting stitch.  When I get around to making a pattern for the slipcovers I want on my chairs, I’ll use the same approach.

Close up of the decorative stitching.  I love this stitch!  It’s number 766 on the 830, and goes perfectly with the lace I’ve chosen for this cover, which has a scalloped edge in pearls.

Head over to Judy’s and see what everyone else is up to this week!

Ohhhh, very pretty. Your slipcovers should be gorgeus. Love the decorative stitching, I can't get my old Huskie to hold the decorative stitches evenly. I have had it serviced and it does better but.....

I like the use of lace on your machine cover. I put lace in a quilt last year and was really pleased with how it turned out. I think I used to see you on a machine embroidery list.

Looking forward to seeing your tutorial. I love the stitch you highlighted too. Dreaming of one day owning a 820 - I don't think embroidery will call to me but who knows, things change!

I look forward to the tutorial also! I have the Juki equivalent to the 1300mdc and she needs a new coat. Thanks for the inspiration.
