Design wall Monday
Monday, July 18, 2011 at 5:38AM I was digging through my older stash that’s in my upstairs sewing room, and ran across a partial jelly roll of Christmas fabrics. Not enough to do much with, so I piled them up and took them downstairs to see if I had any Moda Marbles that would blend with them.
I had a green and gold marble, and a tomato red Hoffman batik, so I decided to make yet another Sweet Menagerie nine patch.
Maybe not the greatest looking, but I think once I add the neutral background sashing it will be cute. I decided to mix all the fabrics up by color-way this time for a more scrappy look… plus there wasn’t enough to make each block one fabric.
I’m still only planning my studio in my head, but some of the ideas are starting to solidify up there anyway. Because I’m a creative type and not a logical one, I don’t do anything in the proper order to begin with, but that’s okay! First I need to cement in my head how I want the studio to look and feel… I was really torn between something clean, bright and modern with lots of white, or something warm and cozy with plenty of oak. White make more sense… I’m going with oak.
This amoire tipped the scales for me. I already have my lovely oak cutting table, which is a gorgeous butcher block kitchen island, and yesterday I was able to purchase this cabinet used for a great price.
I’ll need to have inside shelves added, as it’s set up inside to be an entertainment center, but that’s easy enough.
Unloading it off the back of the truck wasn’t so fun, I strained my back and I’m feeling it today!

Like your little nine patches. New to your blog from Design Wall Monday -- congrats on being first! I think I'll view past posts to see a complete Sweet Menagerie quilt.
Oh, I love your oak cabinet. I have shelving of all kinds including an antique lawyer's bookcase, a china cabinet, and a bamboo entertainment unit. They hold fabric, batting, and other antiques and all fit together in my studio just fine. I like being surrounded by my things while I create.
I love the blocks posted. Your studio planning is half of the fun! I love armoires and cabinets that close so I don't have to see all my things but they are easy to access. Can't wait to see the finished studio.
Being a fan of oak, I am with you on the oak and coziness. Your studio should reflect you and your tastes which will make you much happier once it's done and you are spending a lot of time there. Clean, bright and white is nice if that's what you like but give me oak and cozy any old day!
We are both working with 9 patch blocks this week...fun!
I'm in love with 9 patches, too. Yours will be lovely with the sashing. I also like your new cabinet, it will be perfect for your sewing room.
I think your nine patches are very cute! You said "not the greatest looking" but I opened your link from Design Wall because I DID like the looks!
I think your blocks are looking really nice! Can't wait to see them all eventually. Have fun designing your new studio. Looks like you are off to a great start with that hutch!
I think your quilt will look wonderful!! Love that armoire too!
Terrific 9 patches. They are looking very candy colored and yummy.
I would go for oak too--I love the warm and cozy look. That is a great looking armoire. Closed storage works best for me but I know lots of folks who want to see it all out (my sister is one!)
Great 9 patch blocks. Beautiful cupboard!
