And it's filled already!
Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10:32AM That didn’t take long. I was able to fit a good portion of my packaged batts into the new (to me) armoire, and free up more space on my wire shelves to better sort my fabrics… and now I have room for more!
I was also able to get all of one color-way onto a single shelf, so it’s easier to tell what I have. I can’t wait to have shelves built in the studio so I can store my fabric upright, it’s hard to see colors this way and it’s a pain when the color I want is at the bottom of the stack!
I’d love to find another armoire and use it to store my embroidery threads and stabilizers.
I don’t want to use my sewing machine cabinets (I’ll sell them when the studio is built) in the new setup, instead I think I’d like to put oak cabinets and regular counter tops down the length of one wall, and have a sewing station for each machine. Jim can cut “wells” for the machines so they sit flush. My only concern with this is when I bind a quilt… how to support all that bulk. I’m use to using a quilting cabinet, with space to the rear of the machine and behind me to the left. I may have to do an island for one end, that might work.

what about an island just for binding??
We want a sketch of the room layout and lots of photos when it's done!!
I want to buy your sewing cabinets when you are ready to sell!
What a great idea for the armoire or tv center. I keep thinking about how I can fit ours into my sewing room. It took 3 people to get it into the house, so it won't be an easy move. It might just have to hold sewing stuff in the living room!
If you could find a good chair at the right height, your "binding island" could also be at a cutting table height.
OT - because of the tremendous heat wave in the middle of the U.S., I was wondering if your garage/quilt studio is air conditioned. I live in northern Wisconsin and have only stuck my nose outdoors to walk to the mailbox for the mail & newspaper. I am fortunate to have central AC and I'm afraid I would be a terrible grouch without it!
