Additional borders or not?
Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 1:51PM I had planned to add three more one inch borders… however with the three that are on now, it just fits on a standard crib size batting. If I adde the rest, I’ll have to move up to cutting batting off the roll and wasting the excess (or I can piece it with another scrap for later use).
Opinions? Does it look lost without them or okay as is? As is, it measures 44 x 55. With the three additional borders, it would be 50 x 62.
My EQ rendition with the extra borders is in the post below. Er… make that two posts below.
Oh no!!!!! I just noticed one of my blocks is upside down! Ack!

Looks lovely both ways, but 62" seems very long for a baby quilt. If you want it used sooner rather than later, I'd go with less borders so it'll be shorter. My daughter, whose kids are now 4 and 2 (so it's fairly fresh in my mind), wanted baby quilts/blankets to be around 45" square, so I try to keep quilts for babies around that length.
I think less borders helps the inner design stand out, so I would say no more borders, what you have is a nice frame.
Less borders/as is.....my opine. Humility block?????? D.
I think it looks great as is - I tend to do upside down blocks now and then too - are you going to leave as is or take apart.

I think it looks absolutely great as it is now. But adding more borders may depend on how you want to use it. Could work either way.

I vote as is, even with the one block flipped.
I quilted a baby quilt on DSM and spelled out his name in places in the quilting. In one tight space I left our an "E" in his last name. It's there for him to find one day!
Looks great CJ (love the upside down block!) Will your binding be white? Will it cut off your blue cornerstones?
I would leave it as it is - and use the upside down block as you Amish mistake! Looks great.
what a pretty quilt! I like it the way it is too, but, I'm so behind on reading my blog list and my reader starts with the most recent so I have no idea yet what/who you are making it for lol. Do you need it bigger? I can't wait to read more about this pattern, it looks to be just 3 fabrics right?
great........ something else to add to my ever growing list of "must-do"!!! :)
I like it as is — even with the upside down block! You could call it "Find the one that's not the same". ;)
I think it looks fine without the additional borders. It would look fine with the extras but if the size fits a crib and it's for a baby - this is perfect now.
I am going to be different. I like the rendition with the extra borders! As the kids grow, they will be able to use the quilt longer! It also makes it look more finished. Just my opinion!

Love it as is and I would leave the block :)
