Design wall Monday
Monday, July 11, 2011 at 5:00AM I’m nearly finished with the Boxy Star quilt top, I’m working on adding the borders now. I’ll have this one wrapped up in the next day or two. If you missed my earlier post, this pattern was a free one posted over on Quiltville.
The original pattern is 3 x 4 (blocks), mine is 4 x 5 but I was hoping for 4 x 6. My goal was using up all these blue and green Bali strips, but I didn’t have quite enough for one more row. I’ve added a one inch white border, and as you can see, one section of a blue-gray two inch border. This afternoon I’ll be playing in EQ and seeing if I can extend the two short sides a bit with another border to add some length, if not, I’ll simply be adding one more one inch white border followed by a final two inch blue-gray border.
I haven’t quilted the purple and green quilt yet because my Bliss system for the Millennium will be arriving sometime this week, and I’ve decided to wait on these two tops so I can play.
I hope it’s cooler everywhere else, yesterday hit 110 degrees in the shade at our house. Even with two industrial fans and a mister system, we lost all the baby rabbits but two. I’m afraid today might be just as hot if not a tad warmer. I am so grateful to have and be able to afford to run an air conditioner!
This morning I’m joining a new group of girls for a sewing class, where one of them will be demonstrating how to use the ruffler foot on your sewing machine. I know how to use my ruffler and adore it, but I thought the class might be fun anyway! Besides, I might pick up something new!
Head over to Patchwork Times and see what everyone else is up to this design wall Monday!

CJ - I like this one also.
I don't see how you have that much time for making these. But don't you cut out with that machine thing?
And I envy you not going to a cubicle, just to your studio. Best way to "work".
Have a great Monday, and think of me a few times while you sew.

CJ,
I really like your interpretation of this pattern. I love Bonnie's scrap system and how generous she is with the patterns.
I love this pattern. I made my sister a boxy stars out of Christmas fabric. Bonnie is so generous with her patterns and this is a favorite of mine.
110 in the shade....wow...remind me to never visit Arkansas in the summer. It's been up in the high 90's a couple days here, with very high humidity, and that's been bad enough. Thank God for AC. How did the pioneers ever stand it without any electricity at all for even fans?
I like your quilt top...it's making me want to cut up some batiks and try out that pattern too. I think I would go all scrappy though instead of sticking to one color theme....maybe that's just because I have all different colors and designs of batiks.
I really like this design. Since I am not a true quilter yet, I see a pillow or a runner as a possibility in this. Love your choice of fabrics. You amaze me. You must not sleep at all & I am one who requires a lot of sleep...zzz

we have been slightly cooler up here on the ridge and large shade trees - but by slightly that means we are maxing out at 101 - too hot!! sorry you lost some of the bunnies - that heat is just horrible - I hardly am going outside these days, the porch is even too hot.
How did you like the Monday morning sewing group - some of the same ladies in quilting I'm sure.

Your Boxy Stars quilt is sure pretty! 110 degrees is just too hot! My daughter freezes large water bottles and puts them in their rabbit hutches to keep the rabbits cool in hot weather. Haven't lost a bunny yet to the heat with this method.
Great Boxy Stars! I could dig in my stash and send you some blue batik strips - if you are interested. Just a thought.
Love the quilt. I have the ruffler foot also and love it. But it is so much fun to take classes and you might learn something new. Either way have fun. Hope it cools off for everyone. This sounds crazy, but it was too hot to even go in the pool. Now that is bad.

Yeah, we've had that heat out here in Calif. Miserable - at least ours is a "dry heat"!! Don't like it with or without humidity.
Thanks for sharing the link to the pattern. Isn't it amazing the difference the colors can make in a quilt? It's like a totally different quilt.
