Sneak Peek!
Friday, June 17, 2011 at 9:13AM The wacky blue and green log cabin got loaded last night, and I’ve quilted the first pass on it. I went with the neon green thread that most of you preferred… here it is!
I have to say this quilt, so out there for me, I definitely trend toward traditional… has been an absolute blast to make, from the designing of it and choosing the crazy colors, to quilting it!
When the economy dived and the price of quilt fabric shot through the roof, I began filling my stash with nothing but Moda Bella solids (or Kona cotton) and Moda Marbles. They run quite a bit less than “prints”, especially the solids, but are the same quality.
I’ve been on a mission to design quilts using these less expensive fabrics without sacrificing any quality, and perhaps show others that great quilts can be made without having the latest popular prints.
Here’s a toddler quilt I designed with solids, and another I designed done in Marbles.
Back to the grindstone… I want to have this and the Nine Patch quilted before my next quilt group on Thursday. Anyone see a binding fairy around?

Quilts made from solids are timeless! Just look at the Amish quilts.
I like your colors and thread.
I love solids too and although I have mainly used the Kona Cottons and the Moda Marbles I have noticed that the Bella Solids are basically the same price - do they feel like the marbles or the Kona?
I am using up a lot of the prints in my stash and only get them when on sale.

I've shifted to buy tone on tone or solids like Moda Marbles too CJ. I think some of the colors are so pretty! Your quilt is turning out Great! The panto and the green thread---Perfection! Sometimes it's really fun to step out of our comfort zone and do something different.
I am still loving this quilt! The green thread is perfect.
I think I voted darker green varigated thread, but the neon green thread brings so much life to it - - - just wonderful on this quilt. Love it.
Love how the thread looks. And the quilting is great. I have no doubt you'll get it finished before your next quilting group. You're on a roll.
It looks great -- and I love how it swirls around your border ;D
