Design wall Monday

Guess what I finished in the wee hours this morning?  YES!  The wacky log cabin top is finally done, I got off my duff and finished piecing those tiny border blocks.

At least… I think it’s done.  I’m still tossing around the idea of adding some applique to it, but of course you know that I probably won’t!

I was going to tie dye the backing fabric for this, with the bright blue and green (on white), but now I think a black marble will look better.  I’m hesitant to go that route though, because then the batting color is a tough one.  It would have to be white so as not to show through the white blocks, however I don’t want to use a white batting with a black background either!

I’m also torn on quilting it with either a neon green solid, or a variegated darker green thread.  I’m leaning toward the darker variegated.

I believe I’m going to quilt this with “Spiral Path”, by Willow Leaf Studio.

I should go finish the lonestar now right?  I don’t think I’m going to.  There’s another quilt I am in the mood to make right now, very easy and soothing in pastel colors.

In my stash I’ve had a collection of fat quarters for years… I think it’s one of the 3 Sisters by Moda lines.  I’m finally in the mood to use them!

Head over to Judy’s to see what everyone else is up to this Monday!

YES - great panto, CJ, to do the quilt in.

Wow! Woderful, CJ! I like the darker variegated thread. I really like the panto too--it kinda looks like the ocean waves a bit. Can't wait to see it finished!

quilters dream batting doesn't migrate through the fabric like other battings sometimes do I have found, you are probably safe on it not going through the back. Great looking quilt - I like the darker thread also.

not me, I love the neon green. I think that quilt screams neon. It's fabulous.

Now see...if you had a studio in town, you could never play in the wee hours ...best to keep it close to home.

I'm going with the neon on this one -- love the panto, it will work really well on this .. a lot of thread will be used.
So get back on that star

I love the neon green thread! I think it would be perfect on this quilt, especially if you go with the black backing.

I think the neon green thread would be stunning!

Neon green and I love the panto. And I agree, when you are working on a difficult quilt, you need an easy quilt break. I do it all the time, usually making a charity quilt.

If you are counting votes, mine is for the neon green! Love the quilt!

I agree with the neon choice. There's enough "darker stuff" going on and, really, it doesn't seem to need anything further. Love it as it is (and I am one that has a tendency to put appliques on a lot of my quilts!). Good idea to go pastels next......soothes the psyche!LOL! Working til the wee hours is a definite 'perk' of a home studio/business. I enjoyed my business a lot more once I moved it home (sewing/creating bridal and formal wear for 12 years).

Neon green for me!

I like the darker variegated thread and the panto you chose is going to be perfect. These are also great reasons to have your studio at home.

Beautiful. I love the colors.

I think the neon green on a black back would be stunning also. The quilter's dream batting sounds like a good idea, or line the black side with black interfacing so nothing could get through.

I love the quilt. The colors are just perfect.

Beautiful! I vote for Neon Green also. But it's your quilt. Do what you instincts tell you!

No advice on the thread from me--both choices look fine! I just finished a black and brights small quilt and used a Warm & Natural batt with no bearding. That was quilted on my domestic sewing machine --don't know if your longarm would be more vigorous about pushing the batting out. Very pretty top you have there, tho!

What a stunning quilt! Love the way the colors play off of the black.

Wow! lovely - so glad you got it done!! They are my fav colors - remember to post what you decide about quilting - want to see how it looks! Great job!
