Hickory Hills Quilt Shop

Yesterday Jim and I decided to take the day off and go play.  I’ve been wanting to visit Hickory Hills Quilt shop, just outside of Hot Springs, and we thought it might be fun to take the “Ride the Ducks” Tour and visit a train shop while we were there.  The only thing we accomplished on our itinerary was the quilt shop… I’ll tell you about the rest in another post.

I apologize for my pictures, most of them are leaning over, as we took scenic hwy 7 down and I was somewhat carsick when we got there!

Two lovely ladies greeted us at the door, and gave us a tour.

The shop is probably equally split between Bernina machines and accessories, fabric, and a classroom.

The classroom:

They sell AccuQuilt GO products as well:

Gadgets and patterns:

A fair amount of samples were in the store, something I always like to see.  These dish towels entranced me, what an awesome idea!  Embroider a recipe on the towel!  Definitely on my list to do.

This was a “quilt as you go” project, which I will never do, but I absolutely flipped over it because the idea behind the quilt was to showcase your machines (Bernina machines, in this case) decorative stitches.  The blocks were quilted as you went along, with the stitches.

The crosshatching on the right via a decorative stitch is absolutely gorgeous.  Notice the couched cord around the block?

I don’t do hand embroidery either, but these are terrific!

And last, I loved these two wallhangings and bought the pattern for them:

I hope you enjoyed my tour!

I was at this same store last summer on our Quilt shop hop across 2 or 3 states. This was the one that started our trip and I really did enjoy it!

an on line friend of mine from that area told me about the shop but I have never been there - don't know why - will have to put it on my list. Why don't you take a pill for your car sickness? it works for me for being on a boat maybe it would work for a car too? It looks like they have a good selection of batiks.

CJ, the two blocks that you flipped over are from a pattern called Stitcher's Garden. I do believe that the only way to get the pattern is to sign up with a shop, and it is done as a BOM. I am doing it with a shop near where I live. They actually put together kits each month , and then there is a class where the instructor discusses the different feet, stitches and different methods used in each block. It doesn't have to be quilted as you go either, as we aren't doing it that way in class. I love this. I've learned to really stretch myself and try different stitches, feet, needles, and sewing methods. Google Stitcher's Garden and you will see lots of different examples.

I did all the Stitcher's Garden blocks, and it is wonderful way to learn to use all the fancy stitches on our machines. Any level sewer can learn a ton of stuff from making this quilt!

Sounds like you guys had a great time. I love the towels with the recipe on them. I've been looking for a good inexpensive wedding shower gift and those hand towels look like just the thing.

I like the quilt as you go pics. That is something I would like to do at some point.

Isn't it great to have a partner in crime? One that is an enabler...LOL

CJ, would they ship the BOM w/out being there for the class? I have all the feet and don't need the class . I'd like to buy the pattern and create the fabrics on my own. I couldn't find a website for the quilt shop. I kept getting places in NY. Are they not online? That looked like a great shop.
I liked the hand emb.embelishments, too, around the pieced gfg.
Did they have the recipes on a disk or did they create their own? Fun shop.

This is my mother's shop!! I live in Montana but was visiting while you were there. To answer the question above about the BOM for Stitcher's Garden, YES!, they will ship the kit to you. I believe it starts again this fall so now would be the time to contact them about making those arrangements! Great blog and happy so many folks like the shop. It is a fun little shop to check out.

Thank you so much. I own this shop and we welcome everyone to visit us. The blocks ARE the stitchers garden. The most popular kit is the batik on black. We have a HUGE selection of batiks and hope you visit us soon. Our website is hhqsewingcenter.com. Thanks again!
