Waiting on Doctor Love...
Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 12:43PM Sounds bad eh? I’ve given up on my podiatrist, and have ordered a foot and calf massage machine. It will arrive this afternoon, and I’m hoping it will cure my plantar fasciitis once and for all! Not to mention, having my feet massaged twice a day for fifteen minutes sounds pretty darn blissful! I’ve decided to dub the machine “Doctor Love”. Let’s hope “he” lives up to his name!
I finished another customer quilt this morning. It’s a wild one!
I believe she said this was for a college student, although I may have it confused with another she’s made in very similiar colorways.
This swirls pattern is my most requested quilting design, and I am really pleased with the way it looks on this wild quilt, just the right zany design to set it off!
One more quilt to do and then I’m caught up, and can get the binding stitched down on the comfort quilt I recently finished. I’m about a third of the way through Jim’s scarf I started knitting, I’d like to finish it up so I can try my hand at a pair of socks! Maybe I need a knitting machine… do they still make those? LOL

I suffered with plantar fasciitis for a long time. Custom orthotics finally worked for me. They raise my heal in my shoe a bit, and support the arch, so there is less strain on the tendon where it attaches to the heel. I never go bare-footed, except in the shower or the pool, and wear good supportive shoes, with laces up high on the foot to provide good support. I have tried using my orthotics in some sandals, but they don't give enough support, and my feet begin to hurt in about an hour. My shoes go on a few minutes after I get up in the morning, and come off when I get ready for bed at night.
I tried ultrasound treatments, cortisone shots, anti-inflamitory drugs etc., and nothing worked until the correct orthotic and the correct shoe. As a shoe lover, it hurt to get rid of all my shoes, and now I have running shoes and oxford type leather shoes, all that were fit at a special shoe store specializing in serious foot problems. Costs a lot, but well worth it, as I can now enjoy my daily activities.....
Good luck finding relief.
You could also try homeopathic Arnica. This is the only thing which works for me! Ros
Love the swirls on the quilt. I just did two quilts with my CL swirls, and both ladies just loved it!
I love the Swirls board too! The quilting looks beautiful, and I really like how you centered the first Swirl in the middle of the star.
My daughter suffered with plantar fascitis for over a year. She wore Birkenstocks or good lace up support shoes most of the time. She never went barefoot, and she did her prescribed foot exercises plus an anti-iflamatory. Even with all that she did, she feels the healing process is long, and that is what most patients don't understand about this condition. It simply takes a long, long time to heal. She has never had a reoccurrence since.
Have you tried MBT shoes? I know everyone has a suggestion, but they worked for me. Also, as Susan said, never going barefoot :( and also pilates seemed to help. Leg and foot massages do sound good though! Good luck!
I love the past two post of your quilts. The quilting is beautiful on them all. My husband was also gone for Valentines Day, but last night at Guild I won a diamond ring for our service project work. Someone's son donated it to our guild.
I agree with Susan. I had to get inserts made for my shoes and wear shoes all the time. I also took 4,000 mg of Vit C a day for pain. Usually 1,000 mg at a time through out the day. Sure hope your message machine works for you. If nothing else it will make you feet feel better and then go with inserts.
Keep up the beautiful work you do!! Geri
CJ...What worked for me was a combination of things: inserts made especially for my feet (but I had those when I had my last flare-up), a night boot on the offending foot (I swear by that thing! Purchased @ a medical supply place), and never going barefoot. The thing that made the difference was the night boot!!! Honest. I'm doing great now. HTH!
I'm going to join others in saying never go barefoot! Birkenstocks did the trick for me but it took almost a year. Healing is a very slow process. I love the swirls - they are perfect for that quilt. blessings, marlene
I'll second the night boot as a cure all for me. I've had the inserts and shots but they didn't seem to help. Tried the boot and that was about 4 years ago and I've never had a problem since. I still go barefoot and wear flip flops for most of the summer too. Good luck. I can feel your pain.
I guess PF is common among women of a certain age...and I guess I am one of those although I could have sworn I was still relatively young. :)
I was given a gift certificate to a spa and thought I would get pedicure since it was free. It felt fantastic and I wondered if I could bring that little gal home with me for a nightly foot massage. The next morning was a WHOLE different story. I couldn't walk. For three days I had such pain in my heels I walked as little as possible and applied ice and took Ibuprofen. All this while on vacation. :(
I don't know what happened, but this lady will never have another foot massage again. I can only imagine it was the PF being inflamed by the foot massage which felt so good at the time.
I have been helped by orthotics and wearing a slight heal (less than 2 inches). The only problem I have is I am a bare footed gal from way back and I usually have to have pain before I remember to put my shoes on.
I hope Dr Love works for you, but as for me and my feet...Dr Scholls is the way to go. :)vgftr4d
sorry about the vgftr4d...my puppy decided she wanted to type...
