Look at her… isn’t she absolutely beautiful?  This machine has not been repainted, simply refurbished, but I don’t think there was much refurbishing to be done as there is not a single scratch, mark or chip anywhere on the machine.

The decal on the back is slightly worn through the G.

Otherwise, flawless.

I can’t wait to sit down and sew on her!  I now have a zigzag mechanical to pick up the tasks the straight stitch machines can’t do and I couldn’t be happier about it!  No dealer visits, no computer boards to fail, just classic sewing perfection!

I’m really looking forward to when my 222k joins my stable, twice now this month I would have loved to use that itsy bitsy freearm.

Does this little gem come with cams?

Is this the 401a?? If so it was the first machine I purchased in 1960. The dealer loved me as I sewed so much I wore the bobbin race out twice as I believe it has a drop in bobbin.
I did upholstery and made heavy slip-covers as well as fine baby clothes with it. After 14 years I became a Bernina owner and never looked back.
Enjoy your machines.

Yes it is a 401A Woodsew. I am a Bernina girl and love my machines, but I also am enjoying these vintage machines. I guess they are much more of a novelty for those of us who have never sewn on them in the past :)

With all these machines added to the collection you're going to need to claim your half of the shop building for your studio like Judy L.

CJ I have my mom's 201A in a cabinet and wouldn't give it up for anything. I pat it every time I walk into my sewing room. I remember when she got it at the end of WWII. My aunt worked for Singer here in Cleveland was able to get one. "My mom's."

I learned to sew on that machine. My mom got it when it first came out about 1956. I went to the classes with her and have never looked back! I got the machine when she passed, but gave it to an EX-girlfriend of my son. Sad that its no longer in the family.

Congratulations, CJ!

You have a top of the line Bernina and love this little machine, talk about her and love her. I guess the older we get the more beautiful and loved we become.

I have the one my mom bought in 58 or 59! I also have the Featherweight we sewed on before that. I cannot guess at how many garments were made on the two of them!

I learned to sew on one with cams like that... It was awesome....wonder where it is now?

I have a Singer buttonhole attachment with all the cams, etc. Would you be interested in this? My sister gave it to me from her machine. I still have my Bernina 930 which is all mechanical and the reason I keep it. I always say when my mother board fails in my 200 I will still have a sewing machine!

CJ,

The Singer 401 shown is the first machine I owned. I was newly married and wanted a machine. I fell in love with the 401 but my new husband thought I had lost my mind. My Mother talked him into getting it for me and I sewed on it for 20 years. I then got a Bernina 830. I eventually gave the 401 to my daughter. It's a great mechanical machine and served me well.
