Binding with the 401!

It probably never would have occurred to me to make and apply my binding with my vintage Singer 401, had both my Bernina 830 and 630 not been at my dealers for servicing, but they are and I am!  She is such a gem of a machine!  The more I use the 401, the more I like it.

My 630 just needed some spa treatment, the upper thread sensor in my 830 was recently replaced with the new one, which turned out to be defective, so it’s being replaced once more.  The Singer 401 happens to be the only zigzag machine in our house at the moment!  Not that I need a zigzag machine to apply binding.

Leo emailed me last night to let me know he has some paint samples for me! I’ve asked him to come up with a custom paint, somewhere between mother of pearl and champagne for the 222k he’s restoring for me.  He’s mixed up four samples and will mail them to me on Friday if they’re dry enough.  Color me excited!

Nice. Isn't it sweet to have "back-ups"?

Love the quilt! Do you use bias or cross grain for your binding? The old machines were nice, but I love my 830. Happy New Year! Peace, Diane in CT where it's feeling more like winter.

Happy New Year CJ!

I have had a 500 for a while, which is a 401 in a Rocketeer "skin". I have noticed it sounds different than the 201 or my Bernina, so I'm not sure it is ok and just sounds differently being gear instead of belt driven. Have you noticed a different sound?
