I am, I'm not, I might...

Back and forth over the decision to keep or sell my Bernina 830.  I have decided to keep it.  Even though I get crazy spurts where all I want to do is embroider, I truly don’t do it that often, and not enough to warrant a commercial embroidery machine.

In the event that I actually wear my 830 out, well then at that point I’ll reconsider.  But in the meantime, it is a fabulous machine that I absolutely adore and I think I would regret selling it.  I’m still pretty certain though, that it is the last combo machine I will buy.

Did I mention, with all the Singer 301’s Jim purchased, about the one I found for him?  It’s a secret… he’s unaware that I found it, but I located one that appears from photographs (although they can be misleading) to be in as pristine condition as my 401A.  It’s the two tone LBOW model, and it will arrive today.  UPS always comes to our house at the very end of the day, so I’m crossing my fingers that it gets here before Jim makes it home from work, so I can smuggle it upstairs and wrap it to put under the Christmas tree!

I thought he would get a big kick out of having one that he could use right away, without having to restore it first.  I really want to get him started on a project before he loses interest!  Since he will be taking the RV down to New Orleans for at least half of 2012, he plans to take the 301’s along and refurbish them (other than painting) while he’s away.

I plan to play on the IQ today!  It’s now all setup, tweaked and everything looks perfect.  Time to learn how to use it!

How fun waiting to get each machine. I hope you share photos of before and after pics as Jim refurbishes them.
I've been curious what your decision would be on the 830. As you know, I ADORE mine. But I also adore my 630 and 430 as well. I sew such a variety of things that I truly use all three of them regularly and have no regrets about any of them. AND - that 831 - sews like a new machine. Love her too.

so Jim has a bit of a time coming up down in New Orleans - you should plan on going to visit him time to time - it can be a fun place - just depends on the areas to see.
Hope he likes the machine you got him,.

I would love to have an embroidery machine, but it would not get very much use at this time. Have fun with the new machines :-)

So glad that you have decided to keep the 830 at least for now. I think you would miss not having it. I absolutely love mine.

What is Plan B if Jim gets home before the UPS man arrives?

I think you have made a good decision on keeping the 830. I don't know if I could live without mine. I just love it. I will agree I will not buy another combo machine for its to hard on me. I would like to have a commercial embroidery but I need to decide if I really am going to do enough of it to make it with the purchase. It seems I always have my machine on embroidery and have to wait to sew. Yes I have alot of other machines but love the way this 830 sews and its space. Crazy I know. Enjoy all of them is what we need to do.

I'm glad to read that you are keeping your 830, I would miss my 830 terribly. I started sewing on a Singer 301 and I had a used Singer 501 that my parents got for me before I was teenager, I used that machine for many years - almost 29 years, and then we couldn't get it fixed - returned time and time again for repairs or fix the same problem over again, the Singer store told me that it was worn out. By then Singer had been sold and their new machines weren't what I wanted. That was when after looking at many machines I ended up with my first Bernina 1130. Fun to see you going back to the machines I started sewing with!
