I've created a monster!
Monday, November 21, 2011 at 12:29PM Jim was pretty excited about Singer 301 EBay win…. well guess what? He just won another… and has one bid still outstanding. When I called him at work to let him know he was adopting two girls, he hopped onto EBay and saw a couple of 221’s he thought I should bid on… “better hurry” he says, “they’re ending in like 15 minutes”!
/groan.
My response was… “you better hurry up and build my studio… and add another 10 feet to it while you’re at it”!
Who thinks he’ll actually make a quilt?

Collecting and gazing at machines is a fine hobby. Plus you can putter with them - do a little oiling, etc. They aren't so "hands off" as are computerized machines.
I hope you post a photo of the line up of 301's and 221's.

The way he's buying machines, you're going to need more than 10 extra feet! :)
That's so exciting! Congrats! I hope you get to sew with them, too. I love the vintage machines in my sewing arsenal. I don't use them every day but still...wouldn't part with any of them. Looking forward to seeing photos of your new treasures.
Collecting sewing machines is a pretty harmless hobby. Whether he ever uses one of them to make a quilt is anybody's guess. Judy L.'s Vince was going to make one but never did, a friend's DH actually got started on one but never finished. We'll just have to wait and see.
I still have my Singer Featherweight that I received from Great Great Aunt. I will never part with it. I began my serious sewing on the machine and hand sewed all my buttonholes.
CJ, Enjoy your new machine!

It's lovely that you can share this hobby/passion.

Gee, will you be making covers for all of those "girls"? You better remember to get a bigger design wall too!!!
