Design Wall Monday
Monday, November 21, 2011 at 4:21AM I finished up the dress for my 630 last night, so technically it isn’t still on my design wall…
While I love the way it looks, this will need to be totally redone before I even think about a tutorial for it, my lack of general sewing skills whomped me upside the head in this one!
I will need to figure out a better way to do the ruffles and hem. I had no intention of hemming it at all, but would have preferred to bind the bottom edge like I did on the covers for the 830 and serger. However, I confess to being stumped when faced with the edges of the ruffles, the bottom ruffle, and the side seams. Hence it ended up just a smidge too short.
While this looks great on the outside, the inside is quite sloppy. I’d have to line it, which isn’t something I normally do with the covers.
The “By Anne Soft and Stable” product was absolutely magnificent for this, I am a convert from fusible fleece! I used half inch grid hatching on the side panels, and they are absolutely poofy! The cover is completely self supporting, which not only looks nicer, but makes it very easy to take on and off, no saggy parts to get caught on any of the machine protrusions.
But regardless, while this one isn’t show quality, it certainly covers another of my machines! Only five more to go, thanks to the new featherweight additions and Jim’s re-immersion into the sewing world… a recently won Singer 301 off of EBay. I wonder how many of those he’ll buy? LOL
Head over to Judy’s to see what everyone else is up to this Design Wall Monday!

I think that is the cutest cover ever. It looks quite perfect to me.
Looks fabulous from here!
I love this one!! The colors and flirty ruffle are perfect for my daughter's machine and sewing room!!...so...if you want it to live in GA...
I will look forward to the tutorial!!
I also meant to say--What lack of sewing skills!?!...you do a great job making up your own designs and methods of sewing. That is what throws me for a loop--I need patterns and/or measurements for absolutely everything! Thinking is not what I am good at!!
Karen in GA
I think she's suited just fine, CJ. The ruffle gives her a "let's dance" flair..LOL Is Jim going to share his machines? LOL
That has to be the cutest sewing machine cover ever! Seriously! I've never wanted a cover before but I do now. Lack of sewing skills? I doubt that. Great job! Can't wait for the tute.
Looks beautiful! I keep saying I need to make one of these! Sounds like you have quite a few machines....and adding to it!
Wow, looks great!! I agree, I never wanted a cover until I saw this one, now I can't wait till you come out with your tutorial. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Love the cover. I keep thinking I need to make some but then the to do list keeps growing and they get bumped. Maybe when you figure out your tutorial I will be ready to do it.
Those are really cute. The ruffles are just the right touch,. I think you did a great job.
Too cute!
Nice cover. You mean throwing a towel over the machine when I think about it which isn't often isn't the "thing" to do?
Pretty and cute too! I find tutorials so hard to write... good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.
That is the cutest cover ever CJ. The ruffles really add a lot. And of course the color red! I have never covered any of my machines as I'm always using them, but I would make this cover just because it's so charming! Sure dresses up a sewing space! Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for all the sharing you do with your projects.
Very cute cover! Isn't it surprising how complex things can actually turn out to be while sewing "simple" looking projects! My machine is bare and sure could use a cover too. It's on the neverending list :) Happy Thanksgiving!
Looks beautiful!

The covers are beautiful. If you are fretting over the ruffles. Clover has come up with a notion you can iron on, then pull the strings and it ruffles. Might want to use that. I think I am going to when I make some ruffles, or gathered skirts.

I think it turned out really well - you will be the only one to see the "inside" work - It looks perfect!
