Welcome back Jim!

Some of you have heard my story… when Jim and I were dating, we wandered into a quilt shop (the Quilt Sampler in Springfield MO) and the rest is history.  Jim fell in love with the quilts on display, and decided he had to learn to quilt.

Now back then, the Quilt Sampler was pretty small, and they weren’t a Bernina dealer yet… in fact I don’t even remember if they had sewing machines at all then, but we’d not yet heard of Berninas anyway, all we knew about were Singers.

Jim started researching sewing machines and came to the conclusion that Berninas were the best machines to be had, and hunted down a dealer, expecting to walk out with a fancy machine for about $500.

LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL

He did leave with a Bernina 170 quilters edition, played with it briefly, and then it sat for several years, untouched.  He never did make a quilt.  Of course I caught the bug and our lives have never been the same, but that’s another story!

When I started Featherweight shopping, Jim once again caught the bug, and has stayed up late at nights researching online!  The Singer 301’s have really caught his fancy, and he’s decided he must have one… or two even!

At this point I thought it prudent to suggest he sell his machining equipment, and we renovate the entire 42’ x 48’ shop into a sewing studio that I would generously share with him.  Hehehehe.

Alas he then reminded me that I want him to build a sewing machine to my specifications… so I guess the machines have to stay.  But we are going to need the neighbors house or something for all these machines!

I now have my sewing room, over half of hubby's "so - called" office AND am invading another room for my sewing/quilting. I do believe a "warehouse" is in order.

What's next on my "want" list? A treadle (but always wanted one) and the Prostitcher for my HQ. LOL

Funny, I read an article somewhere about professional quilters who travel and teach, etc. Many of them have bought a second house and that is their studio.
Also, the scrapbooking and quilting retreats are so popular that these retreats are built to owner's specs......a ginormous downstairs room for 25 tables,(each quilter has her own) plus an electrical outlet at each station, and a large kitchen. Upstairs will have 10 bedrooms.
Since you have all this land and love to cook, I am just sending you another idea..................

I want to be the first in line to buy one of Jim's machines!!! I know it will be a great machine!!

I took over my husbands office and am using part of the family room. Right now I could still use more room, but am happy to have a nice stuido to sew in. One thing I would love is more light. My next house I want to be upstairs with windows on almost all the walls.

Good luck Jim and can't wait to see pictures.

You'd be surprised at how many people around here buy the house next to them to keep stuff in or run a home business out of or just to tear down a derelict house that could attract really crappy neighbors.

I bought both a FW and 301A this year. By the way I LOVE the color of your FW on the link you posted. My favorite color is red...

My reasoning is that I spent years sewing at the kitchen table with all my supplies stuffed in the bottom of a closet. Now the kids are gone and he is in his shop a lot. Why not spread out? I have at least one sewing machine on every floor of my house.

The HQ16 is in the basement. We have talked of moving it but I just don't see how that will work.

The treadle is in my bedroom on the main floor. It is a beautiful piece I like to see every day and the lighting is good in there during the day since it is the southwest corner of the house.

Upstairs are all of the main machines in one TINY room.

As I talk about acquiring others, people just look at me in amazement but Mike says, "Why not? If you can find room for them." He has offered to build me a studio but we are such tightwads about heating and cooling. I hate the thought of trying to heat and cool another building.
