A perfect day!

My house is clean, my yard work is done, it’s raining, woohoo!  And I am free to sew!  Jim leaves for Spain tomorrow, and my youngest son will be down tomorrow as well, to spend a week with me.  Tomorrow is his birthday, so we’ll probably do a bit of shopping while he’s down.

I have all the embroideries done for my Yuletide Magic quilt, and the blocks pieced, other than the large central block.

At this point, I’m going to redraw it in EQ, and play with border options.  I may simply follow the pattern (ahem… what a disaster that was!) or I may modify them.  As it was, I had to redo the Christmas and  Yule blocks, then I resized them both along with the Noel block, as they didn’t fit according to the pattern.

The blocks are cut to 3.5” x 6.5” after doing the appliqués, so what I did was draw a block in my embroidery software that size, then simply resized each motif to fit, allowing for quarter inch seam allowances.  I also duplicated the tan embroidery on the Christmas, Noel and Yule blocks so it double stitched, for a nicer effect since I’m using wool felt.

I liked the look of the zigzag tack down stitch versus a satin stitch, but I also duplicated it so it stitched twice.  I did this step on all the appliqués.

I probably won’t do any sewing this week while my son is here, so I’m tickled to have today all to myself and make some progress!

WOW -- I really like this -- but I will NOT purchase any more KITS til I FINISH at least FOUR more quilts ... hanging head in shame ...
I measured my first block for the civil war quilt -- it's s'posed to be 12 1/2" ... I did the SCANT 1/4" seam as suggested ... it's 13 1/2 ... damn ...

CJ, It's beautiful. When you say wool felt, is that the beige color for the embroidery or the batting? Diane in CT

Thanks for the tips of corrections. I just received my fabrics for this project and saw the mention on the 8series yahoo group so thought I would watch for the postings of the corrections before starting. I did look on the dealer site and couldn't find any document so any advance notice of cutting corrections is needed asap. I didn't get a lot of extra fabric so just need to be careful!

Thank you for sharing the EQ file! You are very clever and sweet, too!

Enjoy the time with your son.
