Ta da... the peacock!

Well almost.  I still have to clean it up… trim a few loose threads, remove all the lint, and the excess water soluble stabilizer residue, and of course bind it, but the peacock mural is finally assembled!

It measures 45 inches by 24 inches, and is stiff as a board with two layers of heavy duty (I mean some seriously heavy duty!) stabilizer under all the embroidery.

This is probably one of the most fun projects I’ve ever done.  The directions were quite thorough, and there wasn’t anything at all difficult about creating this, although applying all the satin ribbon over the joins was rather tedious.

I used quarter inch Steam a Seam 2 double sided fusible webbing to fuse the satin ribbons down.  The braided trim I first glued down with Elmer’s school glue, then stitched it down.

For the quilting, I simply stitched in all the joins and around the border.  I haven’t yet figured out how I’m going to hang this, so the binding will likely wait until I decide.  The arched top makes it a bit more difficult.

I’d highly recommend this project if you like this.  It’s called “Picturesque Peacock” by OESD.  You can download the .pdf file prior to purchasing the design pack and read the directions ahead of time.

Last night we enjoyed one of my favorite chicken dishes, “Chicken Paillards in Lemon Brandy Sauce”.

It’s quick and easy to make, and tastes wonderful with steamed broccoli or asparagus for a light meal.

I ordered two new packages of bees to be delivered in May, ours unfortunately died off last year.  And I believe I’m going to go ahead and get some more chickens, as Jim will not being working in New Orleans anymore (YAY!) or only very sporadically…, so I obviously won’t be joining him down there in the RV either!

that is so pretty! it looks like a lot of work even if you say it wasn't. To hang it you might have to put some kind of metal arch support on the back.

At first glance, I thought it was one whole piece of cloth and I wondered how in the world you were able to get it all lined up in the embroidery hoop to stitch out each time.

I know you've missed your chickens so they will be a welcome sight. Are you going to wait another month or two to get them so it will be warmer?

OMG! That turned out fantastic.

Beautiful. I imagine that if it's as stiff as you describe, it should hang quite well. You've done a wonderful job, because it is a stunning piece.

The Picturesque Peacock did not appeal to me at all in the original coloration at OESD....however, your coloration is beautiful and classic. You did an awesome job .

It's amazing CJ! Thank you for sharing your journey on this project! I am almost ready to give something like this a try. :)

Hooray for bees and chickens. I'm thinking of getting Mason Bees in the spring. Classes first though.

Looks as if you are looking out a window into a night time garden.

This little bit of warm weather has me wanting to scratch around in the dirt, but it's way too early to pull back leaves and prune. Patience... not my best virtue... LOL!!

We have about 10 chickens left and they are all older. No more when they die.. really hampers our traveling.

Bon appetit!!!

I LOVE it!!!! Makes me wish I still had my embroidery machine.

An idea for hanging..... I would sandwich it between two pieces of glass, leaving space between the panes of glass so it wouldn't smash or flatten the fabric, using something like clear fishing line to have it hanging suspended between the 2 panes, and frame it out either with a black frame or stained frame. Keeping the frame simple would keep all the attention on the details of the peacock/floral/quilting, plus it would keep it protected from dust.

Stunning! Will it be in the same room as your peacock pillow?

After all that angst regarding NO, the chickens are coming home to roost!

It really turned out nice. An idea is to face it instead of using binding. The top should have a facing down about half way of the first row of squares. Leavng the binding open at the bottom would allow a piece of plexiglass - cut to the shape of the tope arch to fit in and support the shape without adding a lot of weight. The facing could extend longer than the plexiglass so the facing would support it. I'd secure rings to the back for hanging it then on the wall. I think with the facing it would look more like a tapestry.

It is just beautiful!!! I like the idea of framing it with glass overlay. Maybe dark or black mat behind to make it pop. Makes me want to use my embroidery part of my 630 more. Great job!!

Oh My, the peacock is beautiful. Your colors are beautiful. I think the idea of a metal frame is a good idea. I'm going to be interested to see how you end up hanging it.
