About that coffee maker...

A week or so ago I mentioned I’d caved and ordered a single serving coffee maker, the Breville BKC700XL so I could once again enjoy coffee without making a pot (or even half a pot!) and making myself sick on it.

I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying my coffee once again! I just brew a teensy cup, about half the size of a nice coffee mug, and that’s enough for me to feel indulged without feeling sick.  I can even drink leaded coffee this way!

However… for a machine that costs over $200, it brews a lousy cup of coffee.  I’ve tried the various blends I keep on hand, and numerous different K-cup blends, and in my opinion the coffee all comes out somewhat harsh tasting.  Not bitter exactly, just harsh.  When I make a pot of coffee in my Cuisinart coffeemaker, it’s wonderful!  Very smooth tasting.

Am I happy with it?  More or less.  I’m getting my coffee, which is pretty blissful, even if it’s not great coffee.  The machine is gorgeous to look at (yep, that matters too) and you can’t beat the convenience.  But can it brew a comparable cup of java to a full sized machine?  Not even close.

I went in for a hair cut this morning.  It’s not growing as fast as it used to!  It’s been like a year since I whined about Jim giving me a “trim” where he lopped it off to nearly shoulder length hasn’t it?  It’s just now halfway down my back again… still not long enough to make it lay nice.  It needs the weight to tame it, otherwise I have a giant head of Brillo pad hair!  Ack!  It’s the gray, it’s like corkscrews!

Today I plan to do the top arches on the peacock… maybe.  I spent ALL day yesterday embroidering and I’m a bit burned out today, but I’d sure like to get it done.

Bread’s rising on the counter, easy dinner planned… now if I could just get motivated…

CJ, I recently bought the Cuisinart single serve coffee maker & it brews a good cup (also great for tea--either the K-cup or a tea bag). I stopped drinking coffee for a while--I have Meniere's disease (vertigo-vomiting) & my husband was brewing a pot which lasted almost a week--yuk. Now I use either the K-cup decaff or use my own coffee. Pretty good. Diane in CT

CJ...I have a friend who purchased the Keurig coffee maker - the one that is/was $119 @ Amazon. He swears by it.

We have had a Tassimo single cup brewing machine for years. It makes great coffee and Starbucks, Seattle's Best are just a few of the brand of T-cups it uses. I buy the T-cups on Amazon or at Target. Suchard Hot chocolate cups are delicious. Best hot chocolate we've had. Plus it makes Expresso with hot milk. I can understand your burn out with the embroidery. It is beautiful though! No pictures of your new haircut?

We also have a Tassimo brewing machine and swear by it. In addition to lots of coffee options their chai tea is fabulous and makes the kitchen smell great! Our Walmart and Bed, Bath and Beyond carry their pods.

I think it's so cold that we all just want to stay warm and laze around. Maybe you need to curl up with a good book for a day or two to get that creative urges going again.

I LOVE my Keurig...so does my son AJ, my son Anthony and all the girls at work... everyone here has one! The Italian Blend by Tully is my fav...but it also makes good tea and hot chocolate!

We have had a Keurig for 3 years and for us it is not out daily use pot but when one of us wants extra coffee. I solved the harsh taste by making the next size up cup. We so like coffee to taste full. Our son also has a Keurig and passes on coffee to try and recently we tried Donut Shop coffee and liked it. Usually we like the Paul Neumans. Keep experimenting and you will find one you like.
