Honey Do's
Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 1:35PM I asked Jim if he would hang two shelves in my sewing room. He offers to get some pine shelves, router the edges, and paint them white, and make nice brackets. I’m thinking to myself, “boy that would sure look nice… I wonder what year they’ll be done”?
I suggested instead some of those plain utilitarian laminate colored shelves you can get at Lowes, and some premade metal brackets… because my sewing room is already rather ugly, but pretty darn functional, which is all I really care about.
Isn’t that weird? You’d think a sewer would want a perfect room… well of course I do, but I create up here, I don’t come up here to relax really. As long as it’s functional, I’m happy. So ugly utility shelves it is.
I’ll post another picture when they’re up. It might be tomrorow, we’re going out to dinner with friends at 5:30, and probably won’t get home until late… and I’m going to clean my sewing room while we’re at this.

Well it didn’t take long to fill those shelves up! Sixteen feet of wall space, used up in a blink of an eye!![]()
I put all my small AccuQuilt dies on the bottom shelf, because I use them all the time (they were sitting on my window sill, ugh). My four “Barbie boxes” that hold some of my presser feet are on the other end of the bottom shelf. Mostly books on the top shelf, I distributed the weight a bit by putting two plastic drawer units up there.
I may have to work on the top shelf some more.
I think I’m going to need more shelves… more walls! As you can see, I’m pretty much out of wall space… and floor space. Although I could take down my fabric color cards and put more shelves on that wall, they’d be very hard to reach since the sewing cabinet for my 830 is pretty deep.

well shelves are shelves I guess - I had to laugh though about what year would you get the finished product! I'm still waiting for Mike to finish things he started 10 years ago - namely my house!!
I have been busy washing windows today! haven't touched my sewing since Thursday night.

I think your sewing room looks great. I only wish I would keep mine as organized and tidy.
Do I see pants in the making on the floor? Boy, I can't believe how many dies you have. Have you used them all? Which is your "most used"? I'm still on the fence as to whether I really need this. This has been a been a big money yr. I've bought a new car, 830, laptop, v.6 software, and new ac motor/switch. So, I'm trying to save for a while, but the Accuquilt keeps calling my name. At least I'm doing my part in keeping the economy rolling. Hilary
I swear, no matter how many closets, shelfs and tables I have - I could ALWAYS use more for my hobby/craft/passion. I'm thinking about what I exactly want next before bringing it up to hubby - as far as how to store my GO and the dies. I LOVE this new gadget and am acquiring dies fast. I believe it's time for its own space.
Organization...cannot say enough about it. I can get a bit OCD about it. Just a couple days ago - I cleaned out, neatly cut and organized my scrap drawer.....I must be crazy !!
I'd love more (or some!) shelves, but my honey just never has any time... Sigh.
But I still love him! :-)
