You're all gearing up...
Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 3:07PM to quilt, and I’m gearing down. I sew nonstop all summer, because here in Arkansas, it’s simply too hot to do anything else. We’ve been here for six years now, and I’ve yet to adjust to the heat. Now that fall is here, I’d much rather be outside, or even inside with the windows open, but I haven’t been doing any quilting!
On that note, I will accept quilt tops up until December 1st, and then not again until after the new year.
I”ll start cooking more, so I’ll probably get fatter! I have been using our Water Rower every morning, I row a mile and a half, and hope to work up to more, right now that’s all my back muscles can handle, rowing is quite the all body experience!
I’ve also been walking most mornings, just about a mile, because my feet simply can’t take more than that. Sometimes I go to the park and walk along the lake, and sometimes I hit the Bona Dea Trails. They’re closer to my house (neither are far) so I’ll probably go there more often.
I bought a Kettle Bell weight set yesterday, and plan to do some strengtheing excercises with it. You’ve probably figured out by now I’ve decided the gym and I are not a good fit. I’d rather spend the $50 plus a trainer per month on other things, I’m not keen about being around all those people, and I have germ issues. LOL I’d be walking around with a spray bottle of bleach and probably get tossed out!
I just returned from dropping off my eleventh pair of shoes to return at the UPS store, none of them have fit so far. I think I still have seven pairs coming? So many of you have sent me links and made shoe suggestions, which I very much appreciate. Unfortunately, 99% of shoes are not wide enough to accomodate my bunions, so far only the Birkenstocks are truly comfortable. I found some Birk’s in regular shoes instead of just sandals, and have sent for those to try. Of course, they’re not sneakers either, those are proving to be my biggest challenge. I’m not ready to do bunion surgery yet, as long as I can find enough shoes to fit, but I’m getting close to the point where it’s going to have to happen soon, or else I’ll just live in Birkenstocks for the rest of my life!
My face is totally suburned! I never thought twice about it, riding around with the top down with the weather being so cool, silly me! Yesterday a friend and I rode up to Conway and did a little shopping, the top down on the Magster, and today I’m paying for it with a nasty headache! It was worth it though!

LOL - I was wondering about the sun exposure with the top down - I burn easily so I guess I think about it. Don't blame you for not doing a lot of quilting right now - I am mainly just doing that in the evening, it is too nice daytime to sit in the house. Good luck sticking to your exercise plan - I really mean that, I am horrible about sticking to exercise at home I can never get into a good routine and stay with it.

Oops. I'm afraid I wouldn't have thought about burning either. It's great that you have been walking. I am vowing to get back on track with walking this weekend. I know some people that use the kettle bell and love it. I really should get one to work on my stomach area. Let me know if you like it.
CJ have you tried Sketchers Shape Up shoes. I have plantar facitis and after switching to the shape ups I can walk for hours and no pain.l know this is different from bunions but they do come in wide sizes. My husband who has back issues uses them too and he no longer has the pain he once had. Hope your feet issues resolve soon.

I had bunion surgery 22 years ago... not a fun recovery, but good in the end! Polly
Dr. comfort.
They measure your feet with the bunions so the shoes fit.
Then the shoes are made to your foot's shape, size.

Oh dear, sunburns are not fun, esp. while out driving your new fabulous car! You need a driving hat........
Good luck with the shoe search...I can't wait to see what you find that fits. You are doing great with the exercise! Have fun playing outside.
Hi CJ,
Love your blog and visit often. While catching up with what has been going on in your life I saw and read this post.
Just my 2ents worth here but I would put off surgery for your bunions indefinitely. I too had huge bunions and when I was in my 20-30s I would wear 3" high heels. Of course, thats the worst thing you can do. But since my size 10 wide feet have been difficult for me to acquire decent and even sexy shoes for my whole life, I endured. Even as a young women I had to special order my shoes since 10w have been my size since 7th and 8th grade. At that time podiatrists wanted to do bunion surgery on me but at that time the recovery was 1 year in a wheel chair per foot. Being athletic and a cheerleader, I couldn't endure that socially so I put it off.
Now with present day medicine, they said if I had the bunions removed my recovery period wouldn't be that long only about 5-8 weeks. So I went for it but alas regretfully. Now the foot that was done isn't as wide but now it is thicker than it was. So what got whittled down on the size is made up with the thickness of my foot with all the screws needed to fix the bunion. Shoes are still uncorfortable and tight even with buying wide and having them stretched. And a with most surguries your body doesn't have 100 % recovery. Surgery was 8 years ago and now at 55 I have a tinge of arthritis at the bunion surgical point besides the second toe aches.
I'm sorry to be so against bunionectomy, but this has been my experience and I was so hopeful before the surgery, that it would be a magic wand and make my foot smaller so I could wear any type of shoe without the pain. Now I have a different pain in the second toe that the screws were anchored into. Thank goodness I only elected to have my worst bunion done first and not both simultaneously!
Sorry too that this is so wordy, Please do not share this on your blog. I just felt compelled to let you know what happened with mine.
Regards,
A flip flop lover ~ Jane
