Sweet tooth anyone?

I’m not sure why, but on the first night that Jim is away whenever he has to work out of town, the dogs think I should stay up all night and keep them company.  They’ll usually quiet down around 11pm or so, which is well past my bedtime (!!!) and then around two in the morning, they start talking to me.

I got out of bed and headed for the sofa instead, where I got my first bath of the day, thanks to a pair of overly exuberant tongues.  At four, I gave up, started a pot of coffee, ground some wheat and started a couple of loaves of bread, and made my absolute favorite coffee cake.

I really shouldn’t, as I’m unable to resist this stuff.  It’s flakey, sweet and just wonderful!  I scarfed a piece down for breakfast and then did penance by rowing for a mile and a half.

I posted the recipe here.

I’m going to go grill some hot Italian sausages and make some Zuppa Toscana (soup) because I know I’m going to be too tired later to cook dinner, and it will last me until Jim gets home.

One of my blog readers, who lives up in the northwest corner of Arkansas (lucky girl!) is going to stop by for a visit on her way through to Clinton today.  It’s so much fun to put a face to a name!

sorry to hear you didn't get much sleep - I hate it when that happens! I will check out the coffee cake recipe. When you see your friend from NW Arkansas ask her if she has been to the Rabbits Lair Quilt Shop in Rogers and if it is worth a visit. I might try to get to it next time I go to visit my mom if it is a nice shop.

Lucky ME!!! I got a piece of the coffee cake and it was to die for!!!! It was so much fun to meet you, CJ... Such a lovely hostess.

Karen asked about the Rabbit Lair in Rogers. It is a really nice shop and you two would find lots to check out. There is anothe quilt shop on Hwy 16 called Lonesome Pin quilts. She opened in January and is building her inventory. Prices are good, too.

Thanks for the hospitality, CJ.

Yum!! I should make some bread today, now that the beans are done. I should also get daughter Ann's runner quilted. We'll see if I get anything done today. Somehow I'm in a funky mood. Probably need some food. Like your coffee cake!!

That looks so yummy. I think it will be on my list for baking this week. I love anything almond flavored. My brain also thought that it might work well to use puff pastry with the topping and icing.
Good luck with the sleeping. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my low-dose sleeping pills.
