In search of more shoes...

I am feeling much better now this afternoon!  I made a dash to the store this morning, felt okay, so came home, put on some sneakers, and headed off to Lake Dardanelle with the top down on the Miata.  Bliss!

I took a mile and a half walk along the lakefront, which was truly enjoyable as it is nice and cool outside today.  My foot however, was hurting pretty badly by the time I limped back to the car.  I’m simply going to have to find a pair of athletic shoes that really fit if I’m going to do any walking.  The Birkenstocks are awesome, and my feet are loving them, but they’re no good for a brisk walk.

So when I got back, I got online and visited Zappos and Onlineshoes, and between them, I ordered eight pairs of shoes, hoping one of them will fit well! I don’t like to order from Onlineshoes if I can help it, because they don’t pay return shipping like Zappos does, but they usually have all the colors and sizes, whereas Zappos is often out of what I need.  I only plan on keeping one or two pairs, if they fit.

While I was in town, I stopped at another shoe store and tried on several brands my sister had recommended with boxy toes, but none of them were boxy enough to accomodate my bunions.  I had searched for “bunions” and selected the shoes from the search results.  My goodness, sneakers have become ever so ugly!  Whatever happened to plain white ones?

I also stopped at Walmart to see if I could find some travel cups that would fit the Miata’s cupholders snugly without spilling.  We have special ones for the truck and the Matrix, that fit perfectly, and I was able to find two that fit the Miata as well.  I hate having to grab my cup as I go around a corner!

My house is a disaster.  After a week of being sick, it’s not been dusted or vacummed once.  Ugh.  Jim leaves for New Orleans again on Monday, so I know what I’ll be doing!

Glad you have good weather to drive in. :) I need to spend time shopping for shoes......I need walking shoes too. Last time I bought sneakers, I ended up in the boy's dept.--wide and thick enough my my chunky feet. Only thing is they look like boy's shoes and don't come with the girlie accents. Do I care?
Enjoy time with hubby, clean when he's gone. Glad you are feeling better.

Shoes! I have really settled on the SAS (San Antonio Shoes) - USA made and oh so comfortable on my foot which is now old and some what arthritic. Also the big plus for me is USA made.
Sneakers - my favorite brand is Saucony - which I have worn out several pairs. They used to be made in Maine, however these days they are not - but they do have a comfortable fit for me. So I hope you find some that you like.

I just can't order shoes online - I would have to order too many pairs. I hate trying to find shoes that fit and are comfy. I am so in between narrow and medium and anywhere from an 8 to a 9. I thought I was going to like the shape ups that I got and loved them when I tried them on, then started to wear them and my hips ached more with them then without them!! I haven't worn them for over a week now - they cost a bit and I want to wear them and get used to them - I will give them another try next week for a couple days and see how they go.
I hope at least one of the pair you order are comfy - yes we need comfy for walking.

So glad you are feeling better and were able to take your baby for a spin. I acutally did some sewing today a disappearing 9-patch table runner that will be part of a silent auction for my school's fall carnival. Hope to quilt it tomorrow. As for shoes I wear Dansko's to teach in( they are my life savers) and my tennis shoes for walking are New Balance. I think it is tougher and tougher to find good shoes for exercise walking. Good luck with finding just the right shoes.

My last pair of athletic shoes are Adidas purchased in the men's dept. Very comfy and roomier in the toe area. More room up & down if you get what I mean. Even in wide sizes women's shoes often aren't roomy enough in the toe, but too wide at the heel. In men's you'll usually run about two number sizes less than your women's size. I usually where a 10 women's so tried an 8 men's but went with the 8 1/2. Your mileage may vary, as they say.

CJ,
I have terrible feet. I only wear SAS shoes and sandals and only New Balance sneakers 991 that you purchase at a New Balance store not online or a department store. they are the only thing I can walk in and they don't hurt my bunions or rub blisters because of my flat feet.

I decided years ago that cute did not matter any more Just wanted comfort and no pain. good luck in your search. like the car, I have a convvertible and love the drive with the top down.

Don't know if you have ever heard of Ryka athletic shoes but they are made for women. The shoes have more toe room and a narrower heel. I found them by accident and now have to hunt down a pair. Another recent success is Sperry. They just fit and are very light weight with a firm sole. After knee surgery I have found better footwear results in a happier knee.
Love the fun little sportscar. Red is a great color!
Have fun.

Glad you had a great ride in the car. I, too, do not like shopping for shoes. I walk in Nike shocks and they are pretty good. Surely you'll be able to wear at least one of the pairs you ordered. Not sure I like the body we have as we get older. lol

I wear New Balance 927D (wide). I love these shoes for exercise as well as walking. I have 3 pairs of this shoe in black, white, and tan. I have orthotics that I put in them. But when I was having real pain with plantar fascitis, I went back to the shop that made my orthotics and had them hollow out the heal area (donut style now) so that there wasn't undo pressure on that part of my foot that was paining/killing me when I walked on my foot! When my pain is under control, I wear Finn sandals, but when there's pain, I always fall back on the New Balance. I'm the person that also sleeps with a plantar fascitis boot (immobilizes my foot and keeps it close to a right angle when I'm sleeping) on my left foot. I'm convinced this has helped me also. Bought the boot at a medical supply store without a prescription. Hope this info helps.

I could send Kelli over to clean but I'm getting her to do mine first - and trust me - MINE needs it more !!!!

If only I'd stay out of the sewing room and clean the rest of the house. LOL

I've had a broken hip, knee surgery, broken ankle. For athletics/walking I wear "Spiras", available at Zappos..they have springs in the sole - they are REALLY comfortable, and they come in wide widths. For sandals, I wear Bay Area Comfort sandals (they make clogs too - were developed for surgeons) - they have like gel polyurethane soles, they look like Birkenstocks but are WAY more comfortable. Because of my leg problems, I've tried everything (the thrift shops are thankful!), but these are my current favorites that allow me to pretend I'm 18 again!
