Scrap quilt progress

I did end up having enough of the leftover backing fabric to use all five of my stars.  I have very little of the beige fabric left now, but ample amounts of the red, blue and black, so I just need to decide if I’m going to add another border of some sorts, or leave it as is.

Yesterday was wonderfully cool and rainy.  The sun did come out for a couple hours and I had to turn the a/c on, but was able to shut it back off shortly after lunch, blissful!

I ground wheat yesterday and made a couple loaves of bread so I could have some toast in the morning.  Tomorrow I think I’ll make a starter so I can have a fresh loaf of something crusty on Friday when Jim comes home… maybe Ciabatta?

I’m tossing around the idea of getting a small car.  I drive very little, and so we gave my Jeep to one of the kids a few years ago, and I just drive the truck when I need to go out.  But it’s HUGE… our truck was purchased specifically to haul the RV and our tractor, so it’s an F450 dually, and a gas HOG.  Ten miles per gallon in town, seven towing.  As little as I drive, that’s not really a big deal, in three years with four RV trips, there is still only 8000 miles on the truck.

Driving it around town and parking it is a whole different story!  There’s no way I’d even attempt driving it downtown Little Rock.  If I buy something, it will be something to last me forever, so I can’t get sick of it.  There’s only two vehicles (well, within our budget anyway!) that I’ve ever loved enough to never get tired of them… a Jeep (Wrangler style) and a Mazda Miata.

I love Jeeps best, but the gas mileage isn’t great.  They are so much more fun with a soft top, but you really need a hard top if you plan on doing any shopping… or hauling expensive sewing machines around.  The Miatas have a retractable hard top, but I seriously doubt my Bernina 830 would fit in the trunk (but I plan to go check that out!) and maybe not even my 630!  Much better gas mileage though, and insurance is inexpensive on them, cheaper actually than our Toyota Matrix!

Oh for those of you going to toss in a practical vote for something like a small economy sedan?  Uh uh.  Not gonna happen.  Sedans rank right up there with a minivan in my book!

I LOVE this top! Borders? I don't know, I think if you add them great, if not, it will look fabulous.
I love the beginning of fall. We are having nice days but cool nights which are great for sleeping.
I love my '97 Honda Accord and will drive it until they have to tow it off the side of the road. Ernie hates it--he says he feels like he's stuffed in a tuna can. If I ever have to buy another car--I have no clue but it will be something higher off the ground than the Honda.

I can see you adding a bit of a red border - you know, "it" being red and all....and i KNOW you love your reds.

Whatever you get, get all wheel drive. AR is hilly and slick in just about any kind of wet weather and miserable in winter...I am sure you know that. Maybe Subaru something. I haven't looked at cars since I bought my Acura over a year ago. My mechanic really likes anything Japanese..he has a little Mazda something but I am sure it's not all wheel drive.

I love the quilt top!! Wasn't too sure about it with just the few blocks you posted the other day, but this has turned out great!! I love blues and beiges and reds & this has them all! The touch of black makes the stars stand out. Great job.
Karen in still 90 degree GA, although the nights are cooling down enough for the windows to be open. Love that fresh air!

Really cute quilt. I like the touches of blue in it. A border of some sort would finish it off nicely.

You've already got the Matrix. Why not just drive it instead of the truck and not worry about getting something else. Just one more thing to keep running & pay insurance & registration on. My husband & I have six vehicles between us so I know where of I speak. :-)

This top came out beautiful!

You couldn't pull me out of my comfort car for anything. I live in my car 3hrs a day and I need cushion. LOL!

Oh, my gosh, CJ, that is spectacular..... and I'm stuck doing 'have to do it' quilting things instead of flying free to create like you are doing. SOON!!!!

We are totally vehicle poor... LOL. Hubby has a 1990 Mustang because he loves it, a 1977 Lincoln Continental, a 1964 Ford pick up, an F350 truck to pull his backhoe trailer, plus 2 4 wheelers and a dirtbike... he used to race motorcycles. 'We' have a Mercury Grand Marquis -- the 4th one -- and I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara with all wheel drive for driving in AR crazy weather. I love the Suzuki... I'm short and I feel grown up when I drive it and it really zips around. It's not as fuel economical as the little Ford Focus hatchback I had, but I feel safer and can stuff more in the back AND that is important when you have to drive 50 miles to town. I don't envy you having to make a decision.

So I guess you aren't interested in a Toyota Prius, huh? ;) I just got one a couple of months ago, and I'm loving it. Great gas mileage, of course, and plenty of room to haul sewing machines in the back. Lots of amenities, too, like the built-in GPS.

I love trucks, so my "car" is my Ford Explorer. I love, love, love it! I sit up high, have 4-wheel-drive, and plenty of room for my plunder. It has a third seat in the back which folds out when I want to haul my grandsons around, and mileage is around twenty. Not fabulous, but good when you consider all the pluses. And best of all, it's not small should I ever have to "tangle" with another auto. Dan promised me any car I wanted when the kids grew up and this is my second one.

The quilt?? Spectacular! But you already knew I loved it. :-)

Love your quilt. Glad you had enough of the background. As for the car . . good luck!

Have an '07 Toyota Highlander, good gas mileage, GPS, can haul lots of stuff including sewing machines, and it's easy to maneuver and get in and out of. Love it!!!!!

I'm with Sandy -- a Prius is what i want. We gave mine to my daughter and my husband keeps talking about a SUV when we need a new vehicle. I keep talking about how much I miss my Prius....
