I can still smell the fumes...

From my debit card melting from all the abuse it took today! But oh my, did I have fun!
I ran down to the French Seam to pick up my Bernina 830 today. In just two weeks, there were all new store samples to drool over! I am just sick that I forgot to take my camera along this trip!
Karen French, the owner, was kind enough to spend over an hour with me this morning. She showed me the new bias binder from Bernina, which looks like a really, really nice improvement over the old one. There are multiple screws in the base where it attaches to the machine now, for precise positioning depending on the machine model you have, and the arm swings out for easier loading, plus it uses a new presser foot (#95) which comes in both 5mm and 9mm!
I was very tempted. But then she showed me a store sample done with the Bernina cutwork tool, something I’ve not had any interest in yet because I haven’t seen anything made with it that impressed me… until today! It was a simple wallhanging really, that said “Welcome” on it, but the letters were perfect! And then it dawned on me that with the cutwork tool and software, I could do applique letters and number of any font, any size, WAY cheaper than buying even just one alpahbet die set for my AccuQuilt Studio.
So that came home with me too. Oops. Then I saw the new Rose of Sharon embroidery applique pack. Yep, it followed me out the door as well.
Then there was the incredible table runner made with some of the designs from Smith Street’s “Fancy
Stitchin” CD… not something I would ever have considered purchasing from the samples shown on the CD cover, but WOW if I’d only had my camera along to show you what the store sample had done with these!
I picked up a couple of patterns, the store samples (obviously VERY deadly to my wallet) had some beautiful vests made up, and while the placemats on the pattern cover for “Served with a Twist” don’t look very impressive, they were really cool looking in person!
The nifty ruler for rounding corners… I am a self professed ruler junkie.
Off to soak my card in ice…

Sounds like a great store. I've seen a sample of the Fancy Stitching too, and it is just lovely! I can just see my thread budget being blown by it, so I'm trying to resist <grin>
Well you know what they say... "resistance is futile!" LOL
New binder attachment?? Hmmmm, I must see that!
I hate to say it, but I told you you'd like the cutwork tool & software. Eventually I'll figure it out. It is different than the V6 software-different company. So the learning (unlearning) curve is a bit steeper. Never mind ice, you'd better put your credit card in the freezer :>) Diane in CT
It needed a bath anyhow, didn't it? They get "dirty" in every sense of the word....LOL
I'm VERY interested in the new bias binder. Did you see it working? That's something that'll be at home with me when SFTH gets it in...for sure.
CJ, I have the Rounded Corners.....use it often and it's GREAT. I've had it for years. I find more uses for it.
Well, if only they wouldn't have had all of those new samples. Hmmm!
Didn't you have your iPhone with you? I love going to quilt stores that have lots of samples up. I have taken lots of pictures of projects....just haven't made them!
Just like Mary and the lamb... they just followed you home!! And being the good soul you are, you just HAD to let them stay... giggle!! Polly
What did they find wrong with your 830? Did they give any recommendations to avoid the same problem(s) in the future? Have you tried it out since arriving home? Glad you like my state! You had a hot, humid week here!
Pam, the threader was bent. They thought it might have happened during servicing when I had it in a couple of weeks ago, but there's no way to tell for certain.
Hot and humid in Iowa? ROFL! It was 20 degrees cooler up there and felt positively arid compared to Arkansas! Hehehe :)
I had Fancy Stitches follow me home the other day. Before I start I need to go back to my LQS and take detailed pictures of the sample quilt.
What really has me enthused is the Rose Of Sharon quilt. I downloaded the designs last week and have a trip planned to do a 'little' fabric buying. I might hold off starting until Sharon Pederson's book comes out for the extra ideas. Too many ideas and definitely not enough time.
