Sick and sicker

Never mix being carsick with sushi… possibly bad sushi.  Let’s just say I had a very miserable ride home, an unpleasant night, and I plan on cancelling anything and everything I have scheduled today… except for my late afternoon hair appointment, because no one but Jim or me has cut my hair in ten years, and I’m tired of looking like a country bumpkin!

But sadly, I had to leave my Bernina 830 with the tech at my dealer.  He spent several hours with it, and couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it.  Thank heavens I kept my 630, I would never be without a back up machine anymore!

While I was there, I spent some time petting the Aurora 430.  I have missed my 440 ever since I sold it, and keep thinking about replacing it with the 430.  But Bernina University is this week, and I think I’ll wait and see if anything more exciting than the new “3” series comes out.

I picked up two new patterns while I was up there.  The one on the left is your typical clothesline covered project, except that there are no raw edges.  I’ve not liked the raw edge look of these that I’ve seen, but this pattern uses jelly roll strips, with the edges folded into the center for a clean look.  That’s a lot of prep work… no guarantees I’ll get around to this one.

The pattern on the right was sitting next to several shop samples, these were awesome in person!  They have “fat” bottoms (hey, just like me!) and I can’t wait to try one!

I snagged several (okay TWO severals!) packs of Bali Pops, yummy!  I spent some more time petting… this time fabric… when I saw the Hoffman Batiks in person.

Most importantly, I got measured for the My Label software finally!  Woohoo!  I am so excited about this.  The woman who measured me was incredibly nice, and I really enjoyed visiting with her.  She ran a Bernina dealership in Little Rock up until 2001, when she moved up to Springfield Missouri.

I have the first border completely appliqued down.  I’m not sure if this is how it should look or not, but I’m pleased with it.

Today I’ll prep the next border, then decide if I’m going to do all four sides and make it square, or just the top and bottom and figure out what else might look good.

I did not make it to Haik’s as planned… maybe next trip when I go back for my sewing machine.

I'm sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Maybe you're just missing your machine. lol

Your applique looks goog. Did you use invisible thread on the applique? Hope you feel better quickly. Being sick is the worst.

I like how the applique has turned out. It looks really nice. Which stitch did you use?

I think I will have to get some Bali pops just for the names--that cappuccino one is my favorite, also the mint chip and mocha mint. I really like Atkinson Designs products...I almost bought that zippy strip bag pattern yesterday.

Hope you get to felling better soon.

Sushi---eeewww--I will probably never try it now! Sorry this happened to you. Feel better soon. And to top it off, they kept your machine. Double eeewww!
I learned to do my clothesline baskets like that from this DVD

Wonderful instructions and beautiful baskets. I just watched it again Monday as a refresher. Your bali pops are fabulous!!! You are going to have some fun with those.

The applique looks great. Makes me want to go in and play.

your applique looks really neat I bet your going to get hooked on it. I had looked at the bag on the left in the photo when I was in Paducah and almost bought it and then didn't. Now I wish I had as I have thought about it off and on and would like to make it I think.
Hope you are feeling better - that road would be terrible to be on when you are feeling sick and there are so few places to stop.
Who is cutting your hair - just a little or a lot?

Sushi?? UGH!!! I warn my friends all the time to stay away from that stuff. I guess I forgot to send you the memo. LOL! I hope you are feeling better.

OK, your applique looks fantastic!!! All that from a die?? GEEZ! Look at that perfect circle.

So sorry you got sick. I love Sushi but am very picky as to where I eat it. If I smell any fish odor in the place, I'm outa there. Your applique looks so good. You did a great job even though you don't like to do it. I can't justify the GoStudio but after reading so many posts on the web I'm getting antsy to get the AccuquiltGo. I've read a few posts the blades didn't really cut through all those layers. I bet yours does, though. It sure seems like a money pit, though, having to buy all those mats and die. Which die would you consider "must have"?
I'm so glad you got fitted. Now I'm anxiously awaiting your wardrobe enlarging. BTW, I have the same purse pattern and the cappicino set. Just haven't got to it yet. Stay in bed and rest. BTW, how'd the hair turn out?

Sorry to hear you are ailing. Hope you're feeling better soon. The applique looks fabulous--especially if you're a novice (which I find hard to believe!).

So get some rest, drink plenty of fluids, etc.

How's the hair?

I hope you are on the road to recovery! It's no fun driving when you are feeling awful.

I have seen a video on YouTube where a lady is demo-ing how she folds her strips so there are no raw edges. You are right that it is a lot more work but I like the look lots better. How many Pops do you need for a small basket? I have one package that I bought just cuz I love Bali fabric.

Your applique looks absolutely perfect!! I long to do some, but fear I'll be less than successful. I think I'm finding out that I'm rather impatient and like (fairly) instant gratification...

Sushi!! We had a Japanese mom who used to bring it to the teacher's lunchroom every now and then as a treat for us. I always had to leave the room. Can't handle it. You are one brave (if sick!) woman.

Hope you're feeling better by now.

P.S.--we finally have sun and warm!! It's wonderful.

Sorry you're not feeling well. Just got an email from OESD. They have a new Licensed collection-Rose of Sharon. So now you can embroider rather than applique if you choose. Too bad about your machine, but at least you've got backup. I'm sure once you feel better you'll be busy even without it. You're my hero-Wonder Woman. Diane

And you said u weren't doing anything this morning. As u know, I love my 430--a lot. But what's wrong with your 830? They phoned and said my first yearly tune up is done with no problems. I an wondering too what BU will bring us this year

I'm sorry to hear that you're so sick, CJ, and hope you'll be feeling better very soon. The appliqué looks really good!

Oh, CJ, I'm so sorry you are feeling ill, and I hope you feel back to normal really soon! Sushi? Not going in my mouth EVER! I've got an oven roaster chicken with a head of garlic and a lemon in the cavity surrounded by red potatoes and a vidalia onion sprinkled with fresh basil, rosemary, sage and parsley. House smells divine! How much you getting cut off your hair? Post a photo! Polly

Hi CJ
Your applique looks really nice. Have you ever looked at the Bernina Cutwork software?
It is a really neat product to do the entire applique from cutting to the finished applique and embroidery.
Please let us know what ails your 830?
Hope you are feeling better after the Sushi fiasco.

I'm so glad we got to discussing the measuring and you were able to get it done. Now, to hear what you make with My Label! Maybe I'll have to try it too.

CJ, Hope you feel better soon! I agree with others, the applique looks fabulous. I did my first machine applique this past winter, loved it but then again I do applique mostly by hand. I love the look of needle turn and so I made turned edges and used the tiniest setting my machine could handle along with Superior Thread MonoPoly.
