Design floor Monday

I have something to share this week… and you’ll never believe what I’m doing! Applique! That’s been a dirty word in my sewing room for a long time! I love the way applique looks, but I sure never want to go to all the work involved.
Saturday morning Jim slept in, and I felt like doing some mindless sewing. Last year for Christmas I’d made my mother-in-law a quilt, and I’d picked the prettiest green, pink and yellow charm squares out of three different charm packs.
What was left I grabbed and put together with some sashing blocks, but alas when I’d sewn them all together I only had about a forty inch quilt. LOL Nothing in my stash other than solids to match for borders, so I got the hare brained idea to do some applique on more of the sashing fabric!
I used the “Rose of Sharon” dies for my AccuQuilt Studio to cut the shapes. My goodness, that was an incredible amount of work, and people say this speeds the process up? Eep! Now I’m positive that unless I have a die with the shape I want, I’ll not be cutting any appliques out by hand!
My arrangement needed a twelve inch border to fit… so I’m not sure where I’m going with this plan, but I am really enjoying sewing the motifs down! I thought it would be hard, but it isn’t.
Head over to Judy’s blog to see what everyone else is up to this Monday. Oh and OMG… you must try this!
Grilled Ribeye Steak with Onion and Bleu Cheese Sauce.
Absolutely to die for!

What a sweet quilt this is going to be. Love the applique and what it adds to your quilt. Shirley
I love what the applique adds to the quilt. I have decided I like to stitch applique by the machine much better than by hand. I think because it is quicker. Did you use a satin stitch or a blanket stitch?
What a cute little quilt. I love the applique you chose. How are you sewing it down...machine, hand, needle turn, raw edge????
I absolutely hate doing applique but bought monthly kits for one last year--The Circuit Rider's Quilt. I love the story behind it and the blocks were intriguing, so I thought why not. I started one month and gave up, but continued to buy the kits each month. Now its all in a bag waiting...Guess I'll find someone to leave it to in my will.
I made the white chocolate cheesecake for the 4th. We used raspberry sauce--WOW!!! Was it ever good! Thanks for the recipe--reading your blog could be hazardous to my weight--I could get fatter if I'm not careful--LOL!!

Is this C.J posting or have you hijacked her blog pretending to be C.J?
OK, you know how much I love applique. This looks GREAT!!!!! I am so proud of you. (if this is really C.J.0
I love the look that the applique adds to this otherwise simple quilt. It can be a pain, but think about the design possibilities it adds to your repertoire.
I really enjoy doing machine applique and your selection is beautiful.
CJ, It's great. Adds just the right touch. I know you have the AccuQuilt, but the Cutware software could cut out those shapes. I'll know more if I ever learn how to use it. It's taking a while because it's not exactly like the V6 (different manufacturer).
I have been wanting to use a package of charm squares that I won at guild meeting a couple of years ago----that's the perfect quilt for them. I've laid them out on the bed before but the quilt would not have been big enough---your idea for an appliqued border is perfect. I tried to find another charm packet but it's just too old and not available anymore so I was in a quandary what to do. Thanks for the idea.===Oh, I, too, think applique is a four letter word, but I'll give it a try.
I love what the applique border does to the quilt - It's so clean and fresh looking!
I like what the applique border adds to the quilt - great idea!
Once you start applique you will be doing it off and on I bet. I love the look it is giving this quilt! Good job - are you doing the stitch that Natalie showed us at Cuttin' Loose last month?
