Thread painting on a batik panel?
Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 6:13PM
There are some amazing batik panels to be had… I’m curious if anyone has ever done any thread painting on one? If so I would dearly love to see a picture!
For something like this, I would have a blast with the BSR foot on my Bernina.
It’s hot, hot hot here! 103 degrees outside right now. I went to the store and picked up a few things for our trip, cleaned my sewing rooms, made some blueberry muffins for breakfast, and spent the rest of the day watching Jamie Wallen’s CD’s, “Thread Fusion”. Well two of them anyway, that’s all the further I got.
Easy dinner tonight, grilling veggies marinated in a sun dried tomato vinaigrette,
shrimp gets tossed in at the end, served over rice. I prefer it on linguine, but Jim likes rice so we swap every other time I make it.
Veggies this time are brocolli, portobella shrooms, cherry tomatoes, yellow squash, and anaheim peppers.

Well, I know someone who copied a picture of a dragon very similar, cut the pieces out of silk, thread painted it, and glued the whole thing onto silk dupioni. Can't find a picture of it, but I'm looking and will send it on to you if and when I find it.

Whoa, that was fast--I found it--its not a full picture and also not very good --you can't see the detail. She did it on an older model Bernina, I think. I used to work at her quilt store.

For an easy dinner, it sure looks and sounds good. Are you guys getting ready to go to the APQS factory?
CJ - Years ago I was at a Sulky (thread) Seminar at my Bernina dealer and the presenter passed around a thread-painted panel very similar to the dragon panel you show here. It had been stitched by Eric Drexler the son of Joyce Drexler. It was amazing! The threadpainting wasn't solid, just highlighted various areas of the panel. I can't find a photo of it on the Sulky website though. This was at least 10 years ago, probably more like 15. It would be easy to do with the BSR. claudia

supper sounds wonderful - gives me an idea of what to serve tomorrow! I have to run and get the shrimp & fresh veggies first
