If it ain't broke...
Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:56AM Don’t fix it? Do you think I’ve managed to learn that yet? Nope. I confess to being a die hard “tweaker”. I have to tweak everything until it’s “just so”. I can’t help myself!
Yesterday I decided that my leaders on my longarm, while nearly straight, could be better! One side seemed slightly looser than the rest of the area. It wasn’t much, so I thought to myself, “I’ll just spray starch that area, and it will shrink right up”!
Yep, it did. But then it was tighter than the rest. So I figured I’d just starch the entire area and everything would be nice and even. And things went downhill from there!
I finally ended up taking the very well glued down leaders completely off the poles, tossed them in the washing machine followed by a tumble in the dryer, and then proceed to press all the wrinkles out.
Would you believe, 144 inches of canvas shrunk to 130 inches? And they’re somewhat distorted. Guess what I ordered today? Yep. Replacement leaders. They’re actually less expensive through APQS than the ones I can make myself, not to mention a lot less work!
Since I’m going to have to go through all that, I figured I might as well go ahead and bite the bullet and install a zipper set. I understand that by using zippers on my leaders, I can expect to cut my load time by at least half.
I think I need to go sew something… here’s crossing my fingers and toes nothing needs tweaking!

Hey CJ don't call yourself a tweaker! These days it means something else entirely and you don't want that! LOL
I am shocked to find out that you are a "Tweaker". I can send you some info on how to break that habit. LOL!!!!
I think you will like the zippers! The rent by the hour Millenium I have used had them and it was way faster and much easier on the back.
Don't you just hate it when one thing leads to another and another and another . . . unless it's good of course.
sounds like you ended up with a lot of work. I do that sometimes too and end up wishing I had left well enough alone.

Well, now I'm dying to know what that word means these days! Nothing is safe anymore!!
I also have moments when I can't leave well enough alone, and it seldom turns out for the better. Sigh.
Somehow I can't quite wrap my head around the zipper thing. So far, I'd rather pin. Let me know what you think.
