Playing with EQ7

I spent this morning blasting the lone star quilt with steam and starch, as my corner sections were a bit (ahem!) on the full side.  I think I managed to tame them into place!

I met Jim for lunch in town, then we dropped the car off to have new tires put on, and have it aligned.  With all those trips to New Orleans this year, the tires were shot!

Then I decided to play with EQ7!  I’ve been wanting to make crib quilts and sell them, but just haven’t found time to design any yet.  I have some fabrics in my stash I’d really like to get rid of, and I’m hoping I can use some of them in the crib quilts.

These colors won’t appeal to everyone, but I think they’ll make a cute quilt for a little boy.

The quilt will be mostly in the blue, green and white, with a touch of brown, and the striped fabric is for the border.

I didn’t go “looking” for new features in EQ7 yet, I just opened it up and played around as usual until I came up with a design I liked for these fabrics.  On the surface, it seems nearly the same. You will certainly find yourself right at home coming from EQ6.  I can’t wait to explore the new features, I just haven’t got there yet!

Here is the pattern I came up with for my first crib quilt. It’s 40 x 56 inches, which I think should make a nice size crib quilt?  Those of you with little ones in your life, what’s a nice size?  A lot of the baby quilt patterns I see are awfully small.

I may possibly do some embroidery or applique in the white centers, they measure eight inches across.  I’ll be playing with this a bit more, feedback is always welcome!

Off to pick up hubby and the car!

the size you mention I think is good for cribs. I sometimes make them about 45 × 45 and call them nap time quilts but I have made them up to the size you mention too. So often a baby falls asleep on the floor that the 45 × 45 you can lay right over them. Good luck on the designing!

CJ, it's torment to hear that you're already playing with EQ7! ;) The quilt is really cute -- are you adding the striped border after the pieced one?

wait a minute.......you already have EQ7??? how? when? I ordered mine the day orders first were taken and haven't gotten mine yet. I am hoping to play with it as I re-design the Bernina Floral Visions quilt I am working on. As designed it is only about 50" square and I need it big enough for a twin size bed coverlet, hopefully without doing a ton more embroidery. Anyhow, glad you have EQ7. I guess that means mine is coming sooner than June 7. claudia

I am interest to know how you steamed and starched your blocks into "behaving".

I'm so jealous -- I'm gonna have to get my EQ7 too
I do most of my baby quilts 45×56 -- the batting comes that size and it makes good size for crib and pulling around after they get outta the crib -- I made 2 a few years back for a brother-sister toddler set -- they STILL drag 'em around and they are in 2nd grade now !
