Almost there!

One more border to go on the lone star, and I’ll finally be finished piecing it.  The last border will be the lighter blue that is the same as the first border.  As you can see, in the end I opted for plain borders with corner blocks.  Lazy.  Actually nothing else I tried looked right.

I do wish I’d added more than 8 inches to the length, but I didn’t think I’d have enough of the background fabric.  I do have some fullness in the background corner sections, and will have to spend some time steaming and starching it out, ugh.

Guess what I did yesterday? I cancelled our satellite tv.  Jim and I decided we spend too much time watching it, and we have no rooftop antennae. But if we really want to watch something, we can rent it via the Apple TV, or stream it from Hulu to the Xbox, so I guess we aren’t really sacrificing it. I just thought I’d make it so it’s a bit of a pain, and we’ll go do something productive intead of watching TV!  Plus it’ll save $80 a month!

I tossed a 10lb pork roast in the smoker when I got up this morning, and hopefully it will be done by dinnertime.  Bread’s made, now to put that last border on!

OMG! I could never cancel my Satellite TV. I would never get my stitching done. LOL!

I'm loving how your quilt is turning out!!! At first I wasn't sure about the darker blue/navy floral fabric but since you have added the borders, they are bringing it all together!

I'll be starting on my lone star quilt soon. I made my own templates which took me forever to get it right and then hubby went to staple and had copies made for me. I have enough to make 2 lone start quilts maybe 3.

I love how you lone star quilt has turned out CJ. I could save a lot of money if I cancelled our TV too. I wish I knew more about Apple TV. I guess I need to read up on that. We don't have an X Box, or a Wii to hook up Hulu? or stream it?. It sounds like you are very savvy about that kind of stuff. There is so much to learn nowadays to make all this electronic stuff work which I can learn O.K. It's remembering it all that can present a problem at times. We just have the family plan on Dish, and that is about $29.00 a month, so I guess that's not too expensive. I love the DVR part of Dish anyway. Record all my favorites and watch them when I want. What I really need to turn off if I wanted to get a lot accomplished is not the TV I'm afraid--- but the computer I waste more time sitting here reading and typing than anything else I do. But I like to tell myself it's educational. LOL!

Your lone star quilt is lovely! Congratulations!

We haven't watched TV for 12 years. I think the internet will make it obsolete eventually anyway. Enjoy your 80 dollars a month and the quiet 'doing without' brings to your home.

Let's see, just how much fabric can one buy with $80?
Sounds like a plan, doesn't it?
I'm in love with your Lone Star.
What are your plans for it?

Ok, you know I loved your lone star top before the borders. And now, I think the borders you added are perfect. Love the corner blocks. Just what it needed. Can't wait to see what you are using for the final border.

Oh, my, CJ that is gorgeous. I love it. Not sure I would ever tackle a Lone Star. When we cleaned out my mother-in-law's house, we found a Lone Star that her mother had pieced probably 40-50 years ago. I would like to finish it someday, but it has those weird angles between the star points that I don't want to do.

We haven't had TV since Feb. We canceled our cable since we didn't feel we watched $60 a month worth. We never upgraded our TV so it didn't get anything anyway. After the wedding we plan to get a new TV and all that equipment for streaming. I don't understand any of it, but I love my movies--right now we rent from Netflix.

I think you chose the perfect borders. You don't want any border to overpower the star! You are brave to cancel sattelite TV...could not live without my Direct TV TIVO! But.... do you get to spend the $80.00 saved per month on fabric? LOL Polly

Love the Lonestar, but then I did before the borders were on.

We ditched the cable TV when we got internet access, oh, maybe 13 years ago. Traded one evil for another, I get even less done with rabbit ears. Go figure?

We don't have TV at the ranch. Don't even want it, never have. Makes it soooo peaceful. We do have a DVD player and a collection of old westerns -- perfect! I think I get way more done in every area without it.

The only way we can get hi-speed internet where we live is through the cable, so if we cancel, no internet except dial-up. Not going back to that!!! :-) We don't watch much TV, but we do need to go to some kind of TIVO type thing so recording is better and (hopefully) easier.

The quilt? Stunning.

You've done a great job, CJ! I'm also making a Lone Star using the same construction technique. I hope you show us how you end up quilting it. I have an HQ16 and am puzzling over the best way to do it.

CJ, Your lone star is beautiful! love the colors, and the borders, especially the black squares in all the corners. I would never have thought of that.

CJ - This is the first Lone star I've seen that I would want to take home with me. This is magnificent! I think the thing that has always distrubed be about the Lone star pattern was the huge white square that are usually left blank. Yours is beautiful. The black is a wonderful choice. Hope I get to see it in person.
