Border play on the Lone Star
Friday, April 30, 2010 at 3:24PM
I’m limited on fabric for this one, but I think I have enough to do the background in the darkest blue of the fabrics in the star points, and enough of everything to do the borders like I’ve drawn up in EQ here.
I flipped the points around so the beige fabrics are now the tips instead of being the center. With the background fabric being the same as the dark ring, the effect “breaks” up the star a bit… I kind of like it!
I may play around more with the border, but I rather like this one. It’s complimentary without taking away from the star, and remains masculine looking. Any suggestions for changes are more than welcome!
I did get one more point done today, and I even cleaned the downstairs! Unfortunately, the upstairs looks like a war zone, I have so many projects going that I can’t pick much up at the moment. I don’t like to work like that, so I really need to get it back under control. Clutter stifles my creativity… I balk at even coming into the room when it’s a mess!

I totally understand.
I don't do "clutter".
I like your simple border.
But then again, I'm SIMPLE.....ROFLOL
I don't to clutter, either. I do think you, Cindy and I are identical triplet cousins!! :-) Forgot to say on my last comment that your points are so well done! I doubt I'll ever attemp a lone star because I'm not that fond of frogging.
The picture of your plan for finishing the quilt is stunning. It'll be truly spectacular.
I love the borders, the corners just speak to me!
well done. I don't like clutter either and when I get way too many projects going it drives me nuts. I use to only work on one or two at a time and I think I got more done and moved faster - when I get 4 to 6 going at the same time nothing gets done and my small space gets so sloppy and over flows into the living room! I don't like that.

I like those borders, CJ! I did a broken star once, so I do like the way yours looks. :)
I love the border...simple and graphic. Try color switching the background to a totally different color on the color wheel...like a burnt red or rusty orange. Don't gasp. It might be great or ...not. But I had a similar star quilt where I did that. The background was not at all anything in the star and it was neat. The star was blacks shading to almost gray white and the background was a medium toned blue.
But lighter/different color will show quilting more and provide a graphic punch that makes the star sort of pop. But then, you lose the "fractured" star effect.
