Reviews requested

I am researching a new iron, this is strictly for quilting.  This model, the DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact Pro 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler, has great reviews over at Amazon.

But I’d like some feedback from my fellow quilters if anyone is using this system, or if you have a recommendation for me.

I don’t typically use steam when I’m piecing/pressing my quilt tops, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on that as well.  I didn’t stop steaming for any reason other than my old Rowenta began spitting on my fabric, so I bought another, and never put water in it… no spitting!  LOL

But, it doesn’t really get hot enough to do a great job, and it’s the top of the line Rowenta Pro.

I’ve heard steaming can distort a block, I’ve also heard you can’t properly press a block without steam.

Sorry I don't know a thing about that iron.

I own an Oliso which I love love. BUT I am going to buy a dry iron which gets really hot. I used one at a quilt retreat in Feb.

and fell in love with the no hole, dry iron. Check it out.

Good Luck.

One two different occasions, I have cut out a 20 inch square 100% white cotton fabric for applique. When I finished the applique and went to cut the block down to size, I found that the block was still 20 inches but was distorted and not square anymore. After the 2nd one did this, I decided it had to be the steam I used when I was pressing the wrinkles out before applique. Now I use spray starch instead of steam.

Hi CJ I just wanted to pass along this recommendation for an iron that Harriet Hargrave recommends in her classes. I have not tried it yet, I just bought a new Rowenta a few months ago, but when it goes out I plan on trying the Digital Velocity by Reliable. Harriet has a blog that she talks about it. look for the January 31 date. Here is the blog.
