Totally in awe!

I have had the most wonderful day!  It’s too darn bad I can’t have my house in the country and have a big city full of quilt shops, classes and teachers nearby, because I was simply in awe today!

At our quilt guild meeting this morning, we had two guest speakers.  One was a fellow longarm quilter from a couple towns over that is very popular with the quilters here.  She is the nicest lady, and I really enjoyed her presentation.  She quilts on a computerized HQ Avante, and brought it along to let the guild members play on it today!  How cool is that?

The other guest speaker was Carol Ann Wilbourn, inventor of the “Quilt by the Mile” method.  What an amazing artist!  You all know I’m not into bright fabrics, but her quilts changed my mind, they were so incredibly beautiful!  Take a look through her Picassa Gallery if you have some free time.  She will be coming back in October to our guild retreat, and I TOTALLY can’t wait!

I had to leave a bit early to make it to my (woohoo, first quilt class!) lonestar class today.  What fun!  The teacher was a blast and I met two other gals that seemed super nice.  We’re using the “flip and sew” method, utilizing the Quiltsmart foundation patterns.  I gotta say, I found it very hard to get my act together in a class environment!

I kept tripping over my cords, I forgot the snap on table for my Bernina 630… ever try to piece without a table?  Eep!  I spent most of my time ripping my seams back out, but once I got home and back to a normal setup, it’s coming along beautifully, whew!

Last but not least, by being gone all day I didn’t eat the entire box of Godiva truffles.  LOL

glad you enjoyed your day. I have never been completely comfortable sewing or quilting anywhere other than home. At work days with the quilting guild I always seemed to forget something I needed - my machine would act up - or I would have know it all people stop by and say "why are you doing it like that you should do it like this" type of stuff - you know people who always think their way is the only way! LOL

Glad to hear you had such a fun day! Getting together with other quilters is always fun. It is hard to get use to doing around others but it will come in time. And you didn't eat all the chocolate-good day all around!

Oh, I'm envious. We have a small guild here that meets once a month, but I haven't worked up the courage to go yet. These ladies have been quilting for ever and ever. Glad your class went well. Where was the fellow longarmer from?

CJ - I know what you mean. I always have trouble getting my act together at classes or workshops too. But I still think it is worthwhile to go because I always learn something useful and who cares if what you do in class is perfect or not? I usually begin work on the project in earnest once I get home anyway. I've learned to just lower my expectations on what I will get done in a class, and now I have more fun. claudia

It's good that you didn't eat all those chocolates as Hugh coming over tonight to help you out with that! ROTFL!! Polly :-)

I'm not very good in a class. With all the voices, laughter and machines going I have troubel focusing. It is better if I take lots of notes so when I get home I can sew. I try sewing in the class, but I unsew more than anything.
Glad you have chocolates for tomorrow!

Glad you enjoyed your day. I always look at classes as an opportunity to learn a process. I never expect to go home with a finished product. When I come home I find the fabric which works much better, then make the project. Meeting other quilters & learning is reward enough. Can't wait to see what you're doing.

Wow, what a day--a sewer's or quilter's dream. All that sewing knowledge in one place. I love my quilt guild but don't really like the work days except for fellowship with other quilters.
Classes take so much getting used to. Just setting up can take forever. And it seems whatever can go wrong, does in class. I would have eaten all the chocolates when I got home :0)

lol I forgot my knee-lift yesterday! Like you I didn't hardly get anything finished and had to keep ripping! Drove me crazy. And my poor leg didn't know what was going on :)
