What's wrong with this picture?

It’s no wonder I get confused when I get around to assembling my quilt blocks. I need a design wall… in fact I need two of them! This floor stuff just isn’t cutting it!
My cutting table is full too, with fabrics from both of these projects. Then there’s that fabric sitting on top of my embroidery thread drawers… still not put away, not like me at all! I can blame it on hubby right? Since he’s away and my normal routine is out of whack?
Not likely… I don’t have a routine and there’s rarely any rhyme or reason to anything I do!
You’ve seen the pinwheel project, the new quilt is “Lacey Lou” from Judy L’s new book. I love the pattern, but
I’m afraid my reds make the overall look brighter than I can handle. So now I’m trying to decide if I would still enjoy this sized down to a wallhanging in one of my sewing rooms… or if I should revise it a bit an make it a baby quilt?

CJ, what everyone tells me to use is one of those vinyl table cloths for a design wall. Tack it up ........or recently I read on Karen's blog, http://sewmanyways.blogspot.com/2010/03/tool-time-tuesdaya-window-of.html. Read my comment on her blog on what I plan on doing.

LOL - You're not in it.
I got a portable design wall from Connection Threads http://www.connectingthreads.com/Tools/Portable+Design+Wall-72+x+72_TD81893.HTML it works out pretty well and would be even better if I could leave it up all the time but I do not have room to do that so just put it out when I am working on a large project - if I had wall space available I would put a very large design wall up.

The Lacy quilt pattern is darling -- I would not give up on it too soon. I think the red would work fine if you use it in all the places she used blue and continue to put enough white/off white inbetween like she does.
Seems to me the stripe is too busy to use in any blocks on the front as it competes with the grid style layout. Have you considered using the stripe as a binding or as the backing. I think that would be cute. Good luck -- not use to seeing you work with such bright colors CJ. But they are fun - eh?
I like the Lucy with red. Is the stripe for the border? I like that, too. The blocks you have done make me think of happy window frames!
I really like the red in there. It adds some pop and gives the idea of little window frames. I'm not too sure about the stripe--I'm never brave enough to put a bold stripe in a quilt--but I do like Lucy's idea of using the stripe as a bias binding, or as the backing.
I love the red but red is one of my favorite colors. I would go for the full size and then use the striped as a border and backing as Lucy suggested.
I don't know of any good quilt shops in Fort Smith. I went to a very small one a year or so ago on Old Greenwood Road. They weren't very big and I never think about going back. They have a web site "Just for Fun Fabrics" but it doesn't tell a lot. There is also one in Greenwood called "Crooked Creek Quilt Shop" (they also have a web page) but haven't taken the time to go there either.
Take a look at the quilters block buddy. It works....if you have an empty wall that's accessible. I don't so I attached mine to some foam core that I duct taped together and I can move it into my sewing room and out in the hall when I'm not using it.
I love the bright colors and the red, too. I try to bind most off my quilts with a stripe! But if it is too bright for you, any baby would drool to get her hands on it!! Polly :-)
Nothing wrong...you have all the time to yourself. So are you missing Jim?
I love the red in the quilt. The red framing strip will tie all the other red together. The stripe adds interest to the binding. Don't second guess yourself yet.
Did you eat today?
I have been following the pinwheel quilt too, thanks to your blog. Have lots of fun colors in the stash and finally bought a background fabric. Lots of catching up to do next week.
My design board is a recycled art canvas (the canvas got a small tear while in UFO) and a single layer of batt covered with a neutral flannel print stapled in place. It hangs on the wall like art until I need to use it and then can lean it up against most anything close by. Think is 3'×5'.
Have fun!
CJ, would you be able to make use of your stand you purchased for photographing your finished quilts? I would think you could use it as a design wall.
Just a thought.
My current design "wall" is actually a curtain made of fleece which is hung in front of a pair of sliding doors (access to washer/dryer, water heater, furnace) from a curtain rod I installed above the doors. I have great light in my itty bitty loft, but, because it's open, there's no space for a real design wall.
