Oh Fairy Godmother...

Please grant me an additional 6-8 hours in my days!  When I visited Mamas Log House Quilt Shop a few weeks ago, I picked up a small paper pieced pattern for a miniature wallhanging.  Now I’m not sure what I was thinking, since I’ve never done any paper piecing and this pattern says “Intermediate”, but I couldn’t resist it!  Looking at the pattern, I could see that only a hand dye was going to work for the background, so I bought a yard… my first.

I’ve petted it, I’ve slobbered all over it, I need more!  But it’s too costly, which means I’m just going to have to learn to dye my own!  I could see making quilts out of nothing but hand dyed fabrics.  Yummy!

Are you wondering why I haven’t been talking about my new APQS Millennium more?  That’s because I’m spending so much time on it, playing and doodling and going through cheap sheets at a rapid pace!  It’s awesome, I am totally in love!  Not quite ready to load a quilt up on it though, I’ll soon have three or four waiting!

Here’s my progress on the little baby quilt so far.  It has a total of 4 blocks across and 5 down, plus two borders.  I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to expand on the borders.  I think I mentioned I’m doing this all in Moda Bella solids, except the background, which is a Moda Marble.

I'll leave those flowers to you......mini or not. LOL
I'm liking how your blocks are creating a bigger "square" along the way. You could really get creative in those squares when quilting.

Robbi Joy Eklow has some great ideas about dyeing fabric.
You can also paint fabric which is less toxic.
Fabric dyeing involves chemicals and the wearing of a mask as well as gloves, plus a separate washing machine or a sink for hand washing the fabric once the dyeing is done. There are some issues....

Paper piecing, check out Carol Doak for tips.

I love that pattern and the fabric you chose is awesome! Paper piecing is not hard. If I can do it, anyone can. LOL! I learned by watching a DVD. I am sure there are many tutorials on you tube.

OK, I am turning green again from envy. LOL

Carol Doak is definately the paper piecing queen. Join her Yahoo group for free patterns and lots of inspiration. I have been enjoying it for several years.

A employee of the local Walmart told me of a place in Batesville, AR called Marshalls. It is a huge fabric store. I looked it up on the internet and found this website http://www.marshalldrygoods.com/ You may want to check it out. If I happen to take a trip I'll let you know what kind of fabric they have. But, you are closer. lol
